This week I was informed that DS daycare class are transitioning from sippy cups to regular grown up cups. DS is 16.5 months old...I think it's a bit early, but since he is my only child I could be wrong. I think part of me wants him to stay a baby as long as possible, which is probably why he still gets a bottle at night so I can hold and cuddle him. At what age did your LO switch from sippy/straw to regular cups?
Re: When did LO transition from sippy to regular cup?
DS#2 started using a regular cup at school at 13 mos. They are very small but they only drink out of these at his school. It's good for their development and sense of accomplishment/independence. At home, both boys use straw cups anywhere but at the table. At dinner, they both (4.5 and 2 yo) use small plastic glasses.
It's never too early, to be honest. Most times, we don't allow our kids to do these things because we think they just aren't capable. Schools deal with a lot more kids and know what they can do. Keeping your son on a sippy won't keep him a baby, it'll just keep him acting like one, KWIM? Like I said, my 4yo still uses a straw cup on occasion, but drinking from a real cup is a skill they need to learn so let the school roll with it.
