Sciatic Nerve ?

So for the last week and a half or so, I've been experiencing some random, shooting pain in my hips that travel down my leg. My midwife thinks it may be my sciatic nerve. Outside of a chiropractor, which I don't think we can afford, what do you do to help relieve the pain?

Re: Sciatic Nerve ?

  • Yep sounds like sciatic nerve pain to me.  Other than warm (not hot) baths and lots of changing position, the only thing that helped me was having the baby.

I hope it gets better soon for you.

  • I get this even when I am not pg but I had it bad when pg. Basically something is pushing on that nerve. Several things helped. Having Dh take a tennis ball and roll it up and down my back. When I am not pg I lay on the tennis ball and roll it around. I also sat a lot on an exercise ball sometimes just rocking your hips can relieve the pressure. If u are open to prenatal yoga that helps a lot too. Hope u feel better soon.

  • I literally sat on a heating pad at work and home because E found my sciatic nerve and I swear decided to pinch it and play with it. You might be surprised about the chiropractor. My insurance pays for chiropractic visits, and my chiro even wrote that the visits were necessary to avoid pain and having to be on constant medication.
  • It started when I was 8 weeks pregnant and unfortunately didn't go away when I delivered :( I ended up having to go to physical therapy (which insurance paid for). Now I do stretches 3-5 times a week and will probably always have to do them.

    Hang in there!

  • I usually just have to suffer through it, sit and rest, change positions...good luck!
