Goodie bags for 1 yr old party?

Hi ladies,

So, we're having Emma's party in two weeks, and we've got quite the age range of kids coming... about 10 months old to about 8 years old.

Any suggestions on what the heck to put in goodie bags for these kids?  I'm having a hard time figuring out what's appropriate for what age...

 Thanks!

Re: Goodie bags for 1 yr old party?

  • I had coloring books, crayons (regulars for older kids, fatties for little ones), stickers, bubbles, and a party horn.  I know the babies can't necessarily color just yet, but they will be able to soon enough!

  • I've always done a cute decorated cookie matching the theme of the party, individually wrapped for each person.  It'll cost you maybe 2-4 dollars per person from a bakery.  It's a favor that everyone will love and won't just be tossed the minute they get home.

  • I didn't do any goodie bags for E's first bday, but for her second I got little things of playdoh & goldfish containers. I figured all kids of all ages both love those.
  • Honest question here: is there a specific reason for doing goodie bags?  My parents never gave them out when I was a kid and whenever I got one (at very random parties but definately not every one!) I never used anything from it, it basically went straight to the garbage because there was never anything useful in it.  So is there a reason why you feel you have to do goodie bags?  I would just skip them if I were you!

  • My mother did a candy buffet with and different candies and for the little ones she did Puffs and Cherrios, animal crackers and bubbles I know candy is bad but the kids loved it. The candy bags said it was sweet of you to come ...She stayed there to give candy out ..Good luck

  • We did goodie bags for DS's 1st birthday (only had 3 other kids there so we picked things for each babies' age and taste). This year though for his 2nd birthday we're not going to bother.. discovered it really makes more sense to wait for older birthdays when he's got more kids coming.. when he's 4 or 5 we figure there will be many more possibilities for fun toys/activities etc to give out Big Smile

  • Instead of doing a goodie bag, I bought a book that goes along with the theme of our party.  Since we're doing ladybugs, I bought "Ladybug Girl."  I thought that would be practical and cute!

  • We had one year to about 8 years old at our 1st birthday party. We had play-doh, a kazzoo, colors with a little mask to color, and candy. I know some items were not age appropriate for some kids but I just trusted that the parents would look in the bags and give LO what was appropriate. I've gotten some play-doh at kid's birthday parties and I'm saving it for when LO IS old enough to play with it. As far as candy, the parents ate the candy...LOL.
