  • Glad you are feeling more relaxed and comfortable sweetie!  That's important during pregnancy.  I wouldn't read that book from cover to cover.  Just have it handy in case you need to look up one particular symptom or issue or question.  It has lots of information that will never even apply to you in there.  If you are needing another suggestion, the week-by-week book is a great one!  I also love The Pregnancy Bible- lots of pictures.  You could probably find them cheap and gently used at Amazon.com or Half Price Book Store.

  • I wasn't super-impressed with What to Expect.  I learned a lot more about pregnancy in my childbirth classes.

  • I also got a journal by what to expect. I really like it. There is a daily journal and also a log to keep track of all your appointments, symptoms, exercise, diet etc...

  • I've heard that "Belly Laughs" is a really good book. Quick read, lightly informative & pretty funny. I plan on getting it when I can make it to the book store! That and I want a journal :)

  • I really like it so far, it's not an assembly manuel from IKEA, but for what its worth I do find it interesting.  I take a lot of the information with less of a "never do this" and more of a "try to avoid" attitude.

DH and I read the weekly paragraph together every Tuesday at breakfast... kind of a fun ritual.

  • I feel the same way about What to Expect.  It was the first book I bought, because it's what I've always heard people read.  After reading the above posts I bought Your Pregnancy Week by Week and I am enjoying it so much more.  Thank you for the advice ladies! :)

  • I really like the Your Pregnancy Week by Week and the Mayo Clinic guide. These were recommended to me by people on my home board. I've heard a lot of people say What to Expect made them anxious.
  • Yeah, the only one I ever read was the first year one and it was.. meh.

I definitely loved the book 'Belly Laughs'. :) My sister gave me a couple books when she found out I was pregnant. I bought 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' and I find it great actually. It's very informative.

  • I have both What to Expect and Week by Week.  I like Week by Week better because it is more focused.  I also found another book i am IN LOVE with.  Its not a "medical" based book, but it is amazing.  Its called The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy.  Every fear/worry/thought/question I've had so far in this pregnancy has been in this book.  Its a book from the point of view of your "girlfriend" so its very honest and open.  I would encourage everyone to read this book!!!
  • I am reading Pregnancy day by day. Its has tons of pictures and very interesting. I have already read up to week 8

  • My SIL gave me a bunch of books the other night, "What to Expect" and "Belly Laughs" included. I finished Belly Laughs in one day. It was very funny, informative, and disgusting all at the same time. I recommend it!

  • First pregnancy here. Grabbed "what to expect" the other day bc I've always heard its to "go to" guide. I've found it to actually be a really quick read. They breaking down the book with a lot of individual articles. i.e. for vegetarian moms or for moms over 35 or for moms with this disease or this symptom. So if it doesn't apply to me, I just skip over it. It's so full of information!

  • I agree about the Pregnancy Week by Week. I found that at BRU and was flipping through it. It had a lot of good information that wasn't overwhelming or scary. My MIL and SIL bought me the What to Expect book and I've read a few pages but I think I'll be using it more as a resource than a pregnancy bible.

  • I like The Pregnancy Bible by Joanne Stone.  It has lots of pictures and information.  This book is definitely more expensive than what to expect, but it's worth it.
