Re: Clicky Poll: Is your child still Rear Facing?

  • We're changing to FF before he's 2 because our 2nd one is arriving and we can't fit 2 RF seats in my car. Otherwise he'd stay RF until 2 (unless he reaches the height limit before then, which is entirely possible).

  • He'll be RF as long as he fits in the seat. Since our seat has a 45 lb RF limit, it could go until he's 3 or 4 easily.

  • I kept DS#1 RF until he grew out of the weight limits for RF with the Britax Marathon.   He was about 21 months old.  Have a newer Marathon with a higher limit so hoping DS#2 can make it to 2 years old or more.  I did turn him around this past week for a 6 hour car ride so he could be entertained by the DVD player but turned him back around the next day and he hasn't complained.

  • SS, because you left out an option for continuing RF past 2.

  • Our carseat RF until 45lbs/50in. We will turn him forward facing when he reaches the limits of the seat.

This, we'll keep her RF as long as it's safe with her seat.

Same here. Our seat RF limit is 35 lbs, I think.  He is a small kid and will probably be RF for quite some time yet (he just broke 24 lbs, but again is on an eating strike). He turned 2 yesterday.

  • We are still rear facing at home but we went on vacation & the car seat just didn't seem right rf in the rental car so we turned it ff for that week.

  • We turned DD forward facing at the beginning of this month, a few days before she turned 20 months. I wanted to keep her rear facing until she was 2, but we went on a long trip with my family and DD's seat couldn't be safely installed rear facing in the backseat of the rental car. So, we put her in forward facing and the change in her attitude in the car was incredible. I still feel a teensy bit guilty about DD being forward facing before 2, but I really do enjoy being able to see her and having such easy access to her now that she's forward facing.

This. My DS isn't even 23 pounds and will stay rear-facing until the weight limit which is 32 (I think...).

  • We planned on keeping DS RF as long as possible but we just changed him to FF last month when he started getting car sick. I'm glad we pretty much made it to age 2 though!

  • SS - We turned him around at 23 months.

  • I answered rfing to 2 years, but we'll actually go up until she exceeds the height or weight limit of the seat. DD1 made it to 2.5 years rfing before she outgrew the rfing height limit of the Marathon.

Oooh. What seat do you have? I wasn't aware of any that rear face up to 50". Usually it's until DC's head is more than 1" from the top of the seat shell. For DD1, that was at 39" and 2.5 years in the Marathon. Actually, DD1 is 44 lbs and 46" so she'd still technically fit rfing in whatever seat you have. :)

  • I chose SS but only because the 3 other options didn't fit our case. DS1 has been FF for a long time (he is 3). DS2 (22mos) has been forward facing since about 18mos....so he is FF but I didn't change it right when he reached the requirements to do so.
  • I picked "SS"...We changed DS to forward-facing  fairly soon after turning 1 because he's very tall. Most people think he's 3 now, but he's only 2 this weekend! Smile

  • Jake is FF. He's too tall to rear face now. His head is above the shell of his convertible car seat.

  • We FF almost immediately at 1. It's very difficult to find a RF seat in the UK with high safety ratings, and that would fit in my IL's car. We don't have a car here, so the seat rarely gets used.

  • I voted RF until 2, but I should have voted SS.  Z is tiny.  At 19 mos he is barely 21 pounds.  I don't feel comfortable turning him around until he's steadily in the 20-something pound range.  (He is FTT, loses weight randomly.  Recently he lost half a pound.)  I would feel comfortable turning him around when he reaches 25 pounds.  He still has plenty of room height wise too.

  • We have him RF in the two main vehicals but he is FF in the third truck and on the tractor.  He is also RF when ever we take someone elses vehical as long as the seat can be installed that way.    I guess that is SS since we are both he will be RF as long as the seat limits and vehical limits allow

  • I chose SS because we turned DS to FF around 14 months.  He had met the weight and height requirements months earlier, but I tried to hold off as long as possible.  This was before the requirements were changed.  He's always been in the 75th percentile for height so my 14 months he was just all smooched up turned backwards.  It was months later they changed the requirements and we just kept him FF.

  • SS: DD was rearfacing until about 21 months - just changed her last month, not right after she was 1.

  • I voted the top one.  But DD is still rear-facing and we are nearing 2 y/o pretty soon.  I'm not sure that we will switch her in a couple weeks.  I never had the goal of 2 yrs old in mind.  Just that as long as she was happy (not motion sickness) and we would switch her when we want, whether that was before or after 2.  DH will probably switch her sooner than later in his truck, or at least definitely by January bc the convertible will only fit rear-facing in the middle seat and once we put the infant seat in there he will want her on the side.  I don't mind her still rear-facing in mine, but wonder if she will go for it once she gets a taste of forward-facing in DH's.
  • My DD hasn't even hit the weight limit (she only weighs 18lbs), so I think since she is so tiny we will be RF until 2 anyways.
