Anyway... the basics of what I had said was that I agree, if you love it, use it. You are right about the popularity factor. I have a friend who I literally see maybe once a year who had a girl a couple years ago and named her Maddison, which at the time I loved, but in a different spelling. I was a little upset she named her that (although I don't think she knew we liked it, and we weren't pregnant at the time), but realized it didn't matter, we wouldn't see each other often anyway, so it wasn't out of the running for girls names for us. Plus, you and your friend's son will be different ages, so I don't think it would be too weird, but I do understand the weirdness of it.
Bottom line: It's your child, you don't see this friend often, you love the name... use it
