We actually started with a straw sippy tonight after I had heard so many people had good luck with them over regular ones. She did it with just one try so we're going to keep at it.
I introduced a straw at 4 months and DS got really good with it by 6. I love it because it doesn't require any head tilting (which DS doesn't seem to understand).
DD started using a straw before she used a regular sippy. I have a big water bottle that I always have with me and it has a straw so DD always wanted my water. She figured it out pretty quickly.

I haven't really tried because DD is so good with a regular sippy. I don't want her to like the straw instead and ditch the sippy. I did, however, try it a tiny bit earlier today, and she took to it, no problem. Well, she got the water in her mouth, then spit it out, but that's a whole other issue. lol I'll be trying a little more from now on I think.
A was using a sippy at about 4 months & has been using a straw for a few months now. But she still mainly uses her sippy. She caught on really quickly & we have sooo many regular sippys I plan on waiting a bit before switching completely to straw cups.
I need a "sometimes" option. If I offer him the straw cup every day for a few days, he'll get it, but if I slack off and just do the sippy, he forgets how to do the straw.
He does enjoy playing with straws though. He is obsessed.
Until we got her the sippy cup with the built in straws (Munchkin Mighty Grip Straw Cup), she kept biting straws and not using them. After letting her figure it out with the new sippy cup, she has no problem using straws.
DD had trouble with the regular sippies which I read is common for EBF babies so I got her the playtex straw sippy and she took to it almost immediately. I've actually read that the straw sippies are better for the development of the muscles in their mouth and assists in their speech development. I tend to believe it because DD is very vocal and already says lots of words.

We've only tried a straw on Lillian once or twice and she just bit it and then stared at it in disgust.
Sounds like I've gotta get cracking on the straw thing or everyone's gonna judge me. ;-)
She just did the other day. I'll admit I cheated and squeezed a juicebox to get her to try but now she can take any straw.

This is us ... only I have tried several times and she just doesn't get it. She bites on it and then wines.... repeat .....
