We started our LO on a bedtime routine several weeks ago that was working great. Still had to rock him to sleep but it took maybe 5 minutes and rarely would he wake up other then to feed once. The past 2 days he WILL. NOT. SLEEP!! Takes at least 20-30 min just to fall asleep and he only stays asleep for 10 min at most. An hour and a half at most after midnight. Which means between 9pm-5am last night he woke up at least 8 times. Never slept longer then an hour. Which means *I* didn't sleep longer then an hour.
Has anyone else's 2 mo old done this??? His sleeping was getting better and better each day! I'm about to pull my hair out!
Re: stopped sleeping at 2 months?? :(
oh my. i didn't experience this but i did want to say that i hope he stops so you can get your sleep!!
also, maybe he's not ready to go down at 9pm. DD takes a short nap around 9pm but doesn't actually fall asleep until 11-11:30pm. you could try to see if he'll stay up an hour later then put him to bed...? just a suggestion.
GL!
Our babies are pretty much the same age, and all of a sudden this week I too noticed that it's a lot harder to get LO down. We were also on a great routine, until I came to the 2 month hiccup -- I was starting to really question what had happened to my easy going baby!
My LO will still sleep at night after 1 a.m. (thank goodness), but naps and bedtime have been SO difficult -- I used to be able to put her down drowsy, but recently its been impossible and she is SO much fussier (usually, she's not fussy at all!) I was about to go crazy!!
I went to the bookstore yesterday and read a few books -- they say that a lot of times the babies suddenly "wake up" to the world around them at 2 months. Everything is so interesting that they can't help but absorb it, but they end up getting over-stimulated a lot easier. Also, they did say that between 6 and 8 weeks-ish, they are particularly hard to put down, and that usually "putting them drowsy" will usually result in most babies wailing ... totally normal response. Anyway, IMO the best thing I guess is to try to keep that in mind and try to catch the sleepiness cues early and get in quality naps during the day (in any way possible), to try to get LO to sleep better at night.
My "routine" has taken a backseat this week, for sanity's sake. I'm usually all about putting LO in the crib for naps (I'm pretty set on that), but I've let her sleep in my arms or swing (if that's what it takes) during the day ... and the frequent naps have helped her sleep better at night. I hear the fussiness and fighting sleep thing will pass. It's a phase. Hang in there, I TOTALLY sympathize!

Thank you for the sympathy! Thank goodness LO slept a little better last night and napped a lot today. (i pretty much did anything I could to encourage sleep) I'm glad you mentioned waking up to the world, that definitely has happened the past few days and we finally opened up his activity mat which has a little box with flashing lights and music. which he's spent a lot of time watching! being over stimulated would make sense. We've had a routine for a while but we're still playing around with bedtimes. Maybe i'll start a nap earlier and have bedtime later? Thanks again for your ideas!
PS- he has not yet had his 2 mo shots. Those are this week!
