Recommend Your Convertible Carseat

that is good for a small car.  DH has an audi convertible which isn't an ideal car for having a carseat, but buying a new car isn't an option.  Last night I got a Graco Myride 65 for my car, but that's going to be way to big for his car.  We really need a convertible seat since we are open to taking a child from 0-5.  My car will be used primarily, but he will need a seat for when it's not available.

 Thanks.

Re: Recommend Your Convertible Carseat

  • We use the MyRide65 in my car, and have a Cosco Scenera for a spare (for DH, granparents, DCP). The Cosco one seems to take up less space, and is also a LOT cheaper, but has been great for a spare...haven't had any problems with it.

  • We have an Evenflo Titan, which goes up 50 lbs. We use it in a small 4 door sedan and it fits just fine. The straps get kinda twisty, but overall I like the seat.

Our second seat is a Cosco Scenera. I like it better than the Evenflo. It's not super cushy but DS is comfortable in it.

A convertible car seat is not going to work for a 5 year old, most are going to be too tall. Caleb's harnesses are already on the top limit, there is no way we are going to be able to use either seat until the 50lb weight limit. We'll be getting a high back booster, probably by the time he is 3. I'm looking at the Evenflo Maestro

Yeah we already have 2 booster seats that were given to us for an older child, but I'm hoping a convertible seat can get us to that point.

I am surprised about the harness? Jocelyn's harness is still at the 2nd notch, we have never moved it and she has been in that seat since 7 months!! I think we have 3 more to go. We have a Britax Marathon and love it. For our second car we have a Cosco Serena as well and it does just fine. It for sure does not have any fancy stuff, and is very basic, but it works just as well and is safe (and cheap).

I was reading on Carseat.org message boards and some seats have really crummy harness lengths, even with higher weight limits. Obviously the Britax going to 65lbs and being top of the line has better lengths, at least that is what it sounds like. The harness has to be above their shoulder, so we have a little time left before he outgrows it.

  • DH drives an 2002 Honda Accord- we put the Safety First Complete Air in his car.  Love it!  Supposed to have one of the tallest shells but I probably wouldn't recommend for a chunky baby- our baby is a sting bean (tall and skinny).  Fits him perfect.

We have Safety First Avenue for our "extra" seat in case inlaws take him (yeah we're too lazy to uninstall our seats) and I REALLY like it!

What about Britax Roundabout?  I read those car seat sites, but frankly unless you're keeping your kid in the convertible seat until he/she is 5, I think its not that likely he/she will outgrow the shell height.
