c-section mamas question

Did you have staples or stitches?  I was a week late and had a c-section on 8/7 and my staples are scheduled to be removed on monday.  I'm just wondering for those who had staples how bad the removal actually was.  It may not be a big deal but I've never had stitches removed before and the thought of staple removal is really freaking me out right now.  It may just be that I'm exhausted and overwhelmed with a 6 day old and getting myself worked up for no reason.

  • I had/have stitches - but they're the dissolving ones.  I think staples are the norm but I got stitches since I scar really badly.

  • I had stitches for DS and just had staples with DD.  Staples suck in comparison, but they're not bad.  Removal kinda hurts a little, but its not too bad.  Kinda pinches a little and since its in an area that's sensitive due to the surgery, it sucks even more.  Not horrible, but worse than stitches.

  • My incision was closed with staples. They were removed the morning at the hospital on the day I was sent home (day 4 post c/s). I am not sure how many I had, it seemed like a lot but I didn't feel them removed except for one that kind of felt like pulling out a splinter- nothing too bad. After my doctor removed the staples the incision was taped with steri-strips (super sticky tape strips) and she had me keep them on for 2 weeks before peeling them off. I peeled them off in the shower and felt them more than the staples coming out. I wouldn't say it hurt, but more discomfort than the staple removing!

  • They glued mine shut.

I think getting staples removed isn't a big deal though.  My mom has had staples removed lots of times, and it wasn't bad.

  • I had internal stitches and steri strips. If you have another c/s I would ask for stitches instead of staples.

  • I had staples and you can barely feel them being removed.  It's nothing compared to everything else that goes along with the birthing process.  You'll be ok!

  • I had dissolvable stitches, but I had staples for a different surgery several years ago and removal did not hurt at all, I could barely feel it.

  • Agreed with pp's they were a teeny bit pinchy in some spots but it was really quick and mostly painless. I think all of mine were out in less than 5mins.

  • I had staples with my first c/s (this one had dissolving stitches) and they removed them while I was in the hospital. It didn't hurt at all. In fact, these stitches have not dissolved all the way on the ends and they hurt because they get snagged all of the time. I wish I had staples this time too.

  • I had both staples and stitches. My staples were removed right before I left the hospital. Didn't feel a thing.
  • Thanks so much, I feel much better about it.
