Success after IF

For those who did FET after successful IVF...

If you had more than one frostie, how many did you transfer?  More, same or less than successful IVF?

We transferred 2 embies for successful IVF and one stuck resulting in DS.  We have 6 frosties, but not sure whether to transfer 2 frosties and hope that one stick or transfer 3 frosties in case success rates/odds are lower for FET?

2nd ectopic resulted in loss of tube. HSG revealed remaining tube is "severely torqued".
IVF #1: ER 03/29/10; ET 04/01/10: transferred 2 embies; Beta #1 (9dp3dt)- 45; Beta #2 (11dp3dt)- 91= BFP
FET#1: ET 04/18/12: transferred 4 embies; Beta #1: >2 = BFN
IVF #2: ER 06/20/12; ET 6/25/12: transferred 2 embies; Beta #1 on 7/5/12= BFN
8/16: hysteroscopy for polyp removal
11/11: hysteroscopy #2 for yet another polyp removal
FET#2: ET 12/15/12: transferred 3 embies; Beta #1 (9dp5dt): 12/24/12: 426; Beta #2 (11dp5dt): 845= BFP
u/s 1/9= triplets!; miscarried all three on 1/10/13...

Re: For those who did FET after successful IVF...

  • For our fresh IVF cycle we transfered 2 and one stuck resulting in our dd.  FOr our FET we had 4 frozen and 2 survived the thaw so we transfered both and one stuck resulting in ds.

Bummer, forgot that they might not all survive the thawing process Sad

  • We transferred one for our fresh IVF and got DS.

We transferred one for our FET and got a BFP but had a m/c.

We transferred two for our second FET and got a BFN.

We transferred one again for another fresh IVF and I am now pregnant with DD.

    Good luck!

  • Thank you all for the glimmer of hope.  Just like the fresh cycle, I didn't feel comfortable transferring more than 2 embies, but was worried that 2 wouldn't be enough for a FET.  It's reassuring to hear that success can happen even with 1 frozen embie.

FET#1 we got DD (2 transferred)

    FET#2 was a c/p (2 transferred)

FET#3 we will transfer 2 on Monday

  • Short answer:  only as many as I(we) wanted to carry

Long answer:  too many variables to compare apples to oranges. Embryo quality, your age, day embryos were frozen, their grade, clinic stats on thawing, your IF history and diagnosis, if you are open to twins and/or SR... etc.

Some say that fresh cycles work better, but I personally seem to do better with FET's.

But bottom line, if you put three back, you best be ready for 3 to come out.

  • We transferred 2 for our IVF and it resulted in DS.  We only did one and got lucky with our 1st FET. I wasn't up for more than one baby the 2nd time around.  Good luck!

  • The rate of success is not always lower for FETs.  We got pg w/one w/our fresh cycle (and m/c) after transferring our "best" two on a 3dt.  We transferred our only remaining two embies on a 5dt and got pg w/twins.  As always, I wouldn't transfer more than you are interested in having.

  • We had your exact scenario... transferred 2 on IVF #1 resulting in DS, 6 frosties remaining. 3 survived the thaw and we transferred all 3. I was terrified, but couldn't REfreeze obviously and my RE recommended transferring all 3 with risk of multiples very low. I am currently 28 weeks pregnant with ONE baby boy. Good luck!
DS #1 born 11/23/06 - our IVF miracle! Missing our sweet baby who was spontaneously conceived. 20 week loss on 6/24/10. DS #2 born 10/22/11 at 38w1d after FET #1. Life is GOOD!!!!!
