2nd pregnancy and ready to work out!

Im on my second pregnancy and in the middle of my 8th week. But I refuse to gain as much weight as last time. Im hoping only like 30 this time AT MOST.

I am currently doign yoga 3 day a week and eating a mostly healthy diet. But I want more. I want to run, I want to work up a little bit of a sweat without completly exhausting myself.

1st pregnancy I didnt work out because I was paranoid like "most" first time moms. But I refuse to not work out. I feel to amazing after a good session.

Any tips? What do ya'll do to work out? Anyone still running, jogging, working on their abs?

  • In my first pregnancy, I taught a high aerobics and a step class until I was 4 months along, and continued to run 5K and 10K until about 35 weeks until I switched to walking.

They always say don't start anything new when pregnant, but you can continue doing what you have been doing as long as you listen to your body.  I would suggest talking to your doctor about what you should try.

    Good luck!

  • I wouldn't start up any new activities if I were you. Just maintain the workout routine you had pre-pregnancy, while recognizing your limits (especially later) of course.

I would tend to agree-- walking and swimming are always good options.  I was ran 6-8 miles a day pre-pregnancy but have since cut it down to 3-4 miles a day and sort of do a walk/jog combo as per my doc's recommendation.

Totally agree. I've been able to keep up my exercise by altering it down a bit. I used to run 3-5 miles during the week and much longer on the weekend (up to 13). Now I do 2 miles a day and make up some extra mileage at the gym in the evening where I'll also do some strength training.

  • Well thing about that is, for a long time my husband and I would do insane work outs on the beach. They were jsut great. We sprinted, did ab work outs, jumping jacks, ect and then we went on Vacation to the states and didnt do anything and I came back from vacation PREGNANT. So what exactly would we consider "starting up a new work out plan"  if a month before I found out I was pregnant I was SUPER active, then vacation and then maintaning active and kinda slowing down from being tired and jsut doing yoga.

    Am I making sence?

    Yes, you are making sense.

Seriously, if you've only been out of a routine for a month, get back into it. It's not too late. Just be sure to listen to your body. If it's too much, scale down.

  • I did yoga, swimming, walking, light weights, and some random prenatal exercise dvds. Due to my poor eating habits, I still gained 40 lbs. However, staying active allowed me to be active pretty quick after delivery and I have to say the weight has been melting off.

  • If you had a good base, I would thing running is safe, but run it by your doctor first? I just came off a marathon and am 8 weeks pg today. I'm running 5-8 miles 4 times a week but walking or slowing way down if I'm tired. Doctor said it was okay last time, I hven't had an appt yet though. I feel really good.

And I am like you. I gained 50 pounds last pregnancy and tipped the scales at 200 lbs! DH lovingly called me "duce". If I gained only 35 pounds this time I would be thrilled, lol!
