Pintrest

Will someone please enlighten me on what exactly this is besides a huge time suck? ;)

I surely don't need another thing to distract me online when I have so much to do around the house, and I swore I wouldn't join because of this.

BUT.

I'm trying to finish up our house with paint, decor, organization, etc. From what I hear from others talking about this site, I'm thinking it may be helpful?

How does it work exactly? I know you need an invite and it's addictive. That's as much as I know about it. Thanks!

Re: Pintrest

  • It can be a time suck, for sure, but I found that once the initial novelty wore off, I don't spend huge chunks of time on it at a time. I get on it a few times a day, for 15-20 min or so, maybe. Or, I just leave it up in another window at work, and pop on when I have a few free minutes.

It's basically like a big visual bulletin board. People pin things (a picture, that if you click on it, it will take you to the website for the recipe/blog/whatever). You can set up several different categories, and pin things of interest to you, so you can come back and look at them later. I've found tons of good ideas I wanted to file away for later for crafts, fun lunches for Holly, home decor, etc. I even have a board of things that just made me laugh. :-)

You can either repin things others have already pinned, or start your own new pin, by entering an URL to the link you want to pin. You can choose to follow people, so that when they pin something new, it appears on your main board. You can also search for certain things, or you can search certain categories.

I follow several decor/craft blogs, and there have been so many ideas that I've wanted to file away for future reference. Pinterest is great for that! It's a ton of eye candy, all in one place. It's wicked awesome. Big Smile

    Ditto all of this :)

I only check in every now and then and usually just repin some stuff others have revently pinned.  No biggie, just be prepared for the first few days to be a time suck :)

It is great for home ideas.

  • And if you want an invite, let me know which address to send it to! (I have a couple different ones for you, I think...)

  • I agree with the others that its really just the first few days that u are on it that its a time suck cuz you spend time figuring out what kinds of categories u want to set up and just getting used to all the fun stuff. but i love to look at it as a way to bookmark cool ideas and such....def. better and more visual then using the bookmark function on your web browser.
