D.C. Area Babies

I think we might start sleep training tonight.

LO managed to push himself almost all the way out of the swing (which is where he naps). I was in the next room over and heard him whimper and his head and shoulders were hanging over the back and his legs were in the seat pushing off. The belt should have been tighter, which was my fault, but I'm still not comfortable with him napping in it anymore.

So I tried to get him to go down for a nap in the crib and no luck. He dozed for a while while I nursed him, but wouldn't fall asleep in the crib. He hung out there and chatted to the mobile and played for awhile, but still no sleep. So now it's 12:40 and he hasn't had a morning nap yet (and the morning nap is usually his most reliable and longest one).

He's a joy to be around right now. LOL.

So we had been planning to sleep train when LO was ready to night wean and figured we'd tackle the naps at the same time. Since we need to fix the nap situation, I think we might start sleep training tonight. He is capable of sleeping through the night and has done it a few times, so I don't think the night weaning should be an issue.

If I can get him to nap, I will re-read the relevant ferber chapters. Wish us luck.

ETA: Oh crap. He just cut his first tooth. I probably shouldn't try this right now, should I? Or is he ok now that it's cut through?

  • Good luck.  DS reset all the advances we made with night sleeping this week after having a cold.  It makes me sad to go from one night nursing session, to every 2 hours...  But I haven't had the energy to correct mid week.

As to the tooth, once it is through, you are golden.  It's only the time up to cutting that they are in pain.

In my experience with DD, once the night was established, everything else fell into line.  I hope it goes smoothly!!!

  • GL!  DD has always been a good sleeper so I don't have a lot of advice re sleep training.  But I will say I wouldn't let the tooth stop you.  DD has been teething for 4 months straight.  Once one tooth is through, the next one starts.  I think if you wait for teeth you could be waiting a LONG time.  They also seem to bother her a lot less once they've broken through.
