Need some input re: moving

We made an offer on a house and it was accepted.  Yeah!!  Now provided the inspection and appraisal go well we will be closing on Sept. 7th.  My husband seems to think we can move that day - which is a Wednesday - and then go on a previously scheduled camping trip that weekend.  I think that is going to be too hectic.  Thoughts?

For further info. - we will be taking the week off that we are moving.  Ben and I will be at my parents house for the first part of the week so DH and his brother can get the condo. fixed up and ready to rent out - as well as pack.  Ben and I will come back for the closing.  Then DH and his brother will move all the big stuff - and DH and I will work on setting up the house.  I got him to agree to not put the condo. up for rental until the 15th so we have so overlap of time - and are not as under the gun to get everything out.  (He wanted to rent on the 1st - move everything into storage - and then move it again - but I said that was just too much w/a baby)

Do you think it is crazy to try to go camping that weekend?  I'm thinking if he really wants to go - he could go (it's a big group trip) - and Ben and I could stay home and work on settling in...

  • Yes. That is big crazy. Moving house with a toddler is nuts enough. Either reschedule your moving date and enjoy the camping trip, or cancel camping.

  • sounds completely hectic to me. And, I think moving is going to throw the kiddo for a loop and to add vacation/trip onto it- it might be miserable for everyone.

  • Thank you!  That was my thought as well - I just needed some confirmation...
  • OMG! Moving is hard enough without a baby!

When we moved, we moved the day after closing (DUMB!) and then I had a work trip starting the following Wednesday. It was a nightmare. I can't even imagine it with a baby.

    Congrats on the house!

  • I just moved in Feb and even though I was extremely organized, it's a ton of work to pack and unpack. I took a few days off during the week when we moved so DD was in daycare. We also hired movers. Even still, it was more work than I thought. You could possibly send DH to go camping. I guess it depends your tolerence for choas. As soon as we moved, I wanted to get everything unpacked as soon as possible because I don't like living among boxes.
