I am not sure if there is a timeline to follow. I basically just winged it. I started out at 4 months with a couple bites of rice or oatmeal 3 times a day. It wasn't much. I wouldn't even be surprised if each feeding was less than a tablespoon. About 3 weeks later (once I felt she mastered the spoon and cereal), I started with an oz of veggies once a day (with the other two feedings being small rice feedings. A couple weeks later, I bumped it to two feedings, etc. Now I am giving her 3, 2-3oz servings of solids each day (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Just a couple days ago, I introduced chicken.
I also introduced one new food at a time, and waited three days to add another. I would give the new food in addition to any other foods she has tried.
She is also drinking 28-32 oz of formula a day.
Hope that makes sense
ETA: I just wanted to point out that I was given the ok for cereal at four months, and 1st foods shortly after. The rest of the "schedule" was not ok'ed by our ped per se (I never asked about amounts, I just went ahead and fed based on LO's cues). But when I told him what she was getting at her 6 month appointment he said that was fine. You may want to ask you pedi for advice, though, since mine wasn't from an expert source.
Usually we 'try' twice a day to give L solids. Once in the late morning and once in the evening. Morning is fruit and oats and evenings are whatever (usually veggies). We introduce one food a week, usually. L has only gotten bananas with apples, oatmeal, carrots, sweet potatoes, prunes and green beans. Avocado once or twice, but I didn't freeze it and it just went bad.
I play by ear with how much to give L, and it's never a couple of tbsp. She'll eat some things willingly but we have to sneak the oatmeal with something powerful. Prunes worked the best for us with the oatmeal. We had no problems with fruits before veggies, as long as the veggies aren't bland or canned. That stuff's nasty!
I know there's a website with food 'timelines' on it...wholesomebabyfoods I think? It's very helpful because I'm trying to make my own foods for L rather than buying them all. She eats more home made foods than she will jarred foods.
We've been doing oatmeal mixed with fruit or veggie at dinnertime, and that's it. She does eat about 4 ounces of food in that one sitting. When she turns 6 months next week, we'll start giving her solids at lunch too. We don't really have a reason for not introducing more than one meal of solids per day yet...it's just that she goes to daycare during the week and I haven't provided them with any food besides bottles.

Our pedi gave us a pamphlet thing that she put together. I don't have it with me, but I'll try to remember:
1st day: 1/2 tbsp oatmeal (that's what we use, I think any cereal is okay)
2nd day: 1 tbsp oatmeal
3rd day: 1 tbsp oatmeal
4th day: 2 tbsp oatmeal
5th day: 2 tbsp oatmeal 2x day
I don't remember what she said about continuing oatmeal with veggies and fruits so we offer 2 tbsp oatmeal with "dinner".
Fruits and veggies. Start with veggies first because babies like the sweet of fruit and may not like the taste of veggies as much after that.
1st day: 1/4 jar (which is like 1oz depending on the jar)
2nd day: 1/2 jar (or about 2 oz depending on the jar)
3rd day: 1/2 jar
4th day: 1 jar
5th day is the first day with the new veg/fruit.
