10 days late and not ONE sign that this kiddo's coming anytime soon - we know her EDD to be fairly accurate since i was tracking and we did a dating ultrasound at around 9 weeks. She passed her NST and BPP with flying colors. She's just taking her time and i think is going to make us go through an induction. The induction is set next tuesday so we have an end in sight. I really, really didn't want to go through an induction - mamas that have been through inductions, reassure me that it's going to go well. The closer things get, the more nervous *I* get. I think that all my reading about what inductions entail and what they can lead to has made me build them up in my mind to a point where i'm a bit overwhelmed at the thought. TIA!
Re: Induction reassurance
I was induced with both girls, and it went great. First was 17 hours in labor, second was 11 hours. After I got the Pitocin, they were here within a few hours. The contractions ARE very painful...be open to an epidural. I got one with both. Best decision ever, even though I tend to wait until the last minute.
Good luck!
my last 3pgs were induced without any start to labor. my 1st pg i started with irregular contractions that kept me up(being a ftm and not experiencing any BH) i went into the hospital at 10pm and had my first son at 11:30 am the next morning. 2nd son started induction at 7:30am delivered at 6:30pm(would have been 3pm if he wasn't face up and i needed to stop pushing and wait for the epi to be upped. 3rd pg(my girl!!) was 7:30am delivered at 4:30pm. my 4th(boy) i was 1cm and not really effaced when i went in at 7:30am, started the pit, my contractions don't get bad until my water is broken. he was delivered at 8:20pm. all of my births regardless of time have been easier and a quicker recovery.
in my opinion going into a birth with an open mind to any option is the best plan. best of luck!!
I think inductions get a bad rap because some people get them when perhaps they aren't medically necessary. At the point you are two weeks overdue I'm guessing your doctor thinks an induction is better for you and your baby then letting you go any further.
I was sort of induced with my first. My water broke and then no contractions started so I was given pitocin. Everything progressed well and I had a vaginal birth. I was also induced with my third and it was quick, less than four hours, and again everything progressed well and I had a vaginal birth.
You've still got some time before Tuesday so I hope your little girl decides to make an appearance sooner rather than later.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
This Cluttered Life
Mine was so easy. I went in first thing in the morning. They broke my water and started the Pit. I got to choose when I wanted mhy epidural. I got one at about 5cm(around 10 am). Then family came and we sat in my room and visited while waiting to be told I was 10 cm(1:30pm). I started pushing and he was here within about an hour-an hour and a half of pushing(3:15pm)
I could feel the urge to push. I was able to feel the pressure. They turned off the epidural while I was pushing, so by the time I was holding him the epidural had worn off already.
Induction can be really awesome. I've had two, both couldn't have been better labor and deliveries. LO#1 was born about 12hrs after we started Pitocin. I labored without any drugs until about 2 hours from the finish line. At that point, I was really just so tired that I needed some help (I hadn't slept in days because I was so anxious!). But the epi worked great and I had an awesome delivery and recovery. LO#2 only took 5 hours on pitocin! Another great, smooth experience.
Honestly, I wanted to have this one without induction just to experience going into labor. Because of my GD, that may not be possible (I have to be induced next Tuesday), but I'm okay with that because of the great inductions I've had in the past.
Other benefits: no guesswork of when to go to the hospital, no fears about not getting there in time or in time to get an epidural, will be able to settle into your room and get comfortable with your surroundings before things get started, can call family and friends ahead of time, etc. There are some fun practical points to being induced that you can enjoy! I wish you excellent luck and a healthy baby!!
Thank you, ladies, these are DEFINITELY the stories i need to hear. I'm trying to remain positive and i've still got four full days before this little girl is being forced to join us but i really appreciate the encouragement. I'm trying very hard to be open-minded about my birth plan since i no longer have faith that she'll come on her own ;-)
Thanks again for the positive stories - keep 'em coming, i'm reading each and every one! This is what i'm going to focus on if i go in to the hospital this tuesday.
I was induced with my first five days before my due date, not effaced, dilated, NOTHING!
I was having some complications with my health and had no choice. I only PRAY for a birth as easy as this one was!!!!!! Did Cervadil the night before, didn't do anything. Started Pitocin around 9:00 the next day. I wasn't dilating but having normal contractions (nothing I couldn't tolerate and weren't bad at all) due to scar tissue being on my cervix from a cone biopsy. They did an epidural at that point (around noon) so the nurse could rip that scar tissue out (thank God for epis!!!!), the doctor came in and broke my water and DD was born at 4:47 p.m., after pushing for 45 minutes (pain free because the epi was still good and strong!). To me, it was the perfect labor -- no pain, no major problems, nothing. I only hope to have half as easy a labor this time around!
Good luck!!!! I hope you'll do great!!!!
