Honda Pilot- 3 carseats??

Hi girls,

I have a Honda pilot- which I love.  I am pregnant with Baby #3 and wondering what is the best way to arrange the carseats... Anyone else have 3 kids in a Pilot?  Wondering if I should do all 3 next to each other in the middle row or move someone to the back row.  Please no suggestions to buy a new car, we are trying to make due with the vehicle we already have.  :)  :)  :)  Thanks ladies!

Re: Honda Pilot- 3 carseats??

  • I'm not familiar with this car, but there are not a lot of configurations that allow 3 carseats across. I know that the sunshine kids radian is one of the very few that fit 3 across.

  • I don't have a Pilot, but when my family travels with the 3rd row SUV, we always bump the "big" kids in the back row, which is a 4 and 6 year old. Your youngest should be 4 (if I read that right) and should be able to handle the back row alone. Good luck!

  • I would personally put one of the sits in the back row..

  • Thanks girls!  I do know someone who is able to fit 2 Britax and 1 Graco snugride infant seat all 3 in the middle row of the Pilot so that's what I think I might try at first.  Good to know the 4 year old maturely might be able to handle sitting in thr back row by himself too!  We've been working on him strapping himself in the carseat and unstrapping it so that would help a ton if all I had to do was double check his work.  :)

  • Most people i know with this car that have little kids do put 3 seats in the 2nd row.  Most get sunshine radians for the older kids so that they'll all fit.  Those seats are narrower.  We have an MDX, which is the same as a Pilot, just Acura.  Since #1 and #2 are >4 y/o, I'm going to put them in the 3rd row and baby in the 2nd row behind driver so that the older to can use the fold up seat for access.  They love sitting back there, so that helps.

  • That's a great idea about using the fold up seat for access!  Thanks!

Originally, when I was PG last year, DD was only going to be 4 when #3 came along (now she'll be almost 5) and I was going to put 2 seats next to each other in the 2nd row in order to allow the 3rd seat to flip up so DS could get in the back.  I probably would have purchased a Radian for DD so that it would be narrow enough to allow that.  You could try that for your younger two also.  Can't hurt to try it out now and see if it works for you.

  • That's a great idea too!  Do you have to crawl back there to strap in your kids or do your eldests know how to strap in themselves?

Both can get back there on their own and buckle, but I have to supervise.  ;-)  It's not too bad to squeeze back there with the seat folded up.
