I'm sure this might not go over to well but....Our state fair is next month and we are planning to take our DS. He is already on solid foods (cereal, formula and baby food) and has two bottom teeth. Anyway, I really want to have him taste cotton candy and lick a caramel apple maybe a corn dog? Only because that is my favorite thing to get (only when it's covered in mustard) He's tasted some adult food before (thanks to my moms obsession with his reaction)
Of course these are just "tastes" so would you do it? At this time he will be 6 months.
Re: Fair food for babies????
This. I'm sure you'll have a chance to go back to this fair when he's actually old enough to enjoy the food.
Definitely this. If it was because he would like it or he really wanted some, fine, but 6 months is too young to care or remember. I just don't see the point.
I'm probably not the best person to ask, since I gave my 3 month old a taste of whip cream. But why not? I wouldn't go crazy. I gave her a tiny taste of whip cream, once. If I wanted to, I might give her a bite of cotton candy or something.
FWIW- She was less than impressed by the whip cream. lol

Would I do it? Probably not - and I wouldn't give it to my toddler either. It's just NMS. I figure there will be plenty of years where I have to fight to keep him from stuffing his face with food like that. I enjoy the times when I can totally control his diet without him protesting. :-)
This. No offense, the idea of eating fair food is not appealing to me by any means, so for my daughter I can't imagine giving her that food until she's old enough to request it (and even then... eh). As PPs have said, I wouldn't rush into giving your LO tastes of food. His stomach is still so young and getting used to processing things, giving him something that is *so* overprocessed just does not seem like a good idea in my eyes.
Wait until he can enjoy it. Right now you're just doing it for yourself. But it's your kid lol, in the end you've gotta do what you feel is right.

Just like someone already said - he won't remember it and you'll be doing it just for yourself. Plus it's junk food that could possibly upset his stomach (yeah, even tiny bitty tastes as his digestive tract is not mature enough to process such junk at that age). Take a pic of him holding it, etc., to have a nice memory, but don't give it to him. I mean, you're gonna do what you're gonna do, but I'd advise against that.
My two cents.
Exactly this. He's too young to get any real enjoyment out of it, which is the only reason to eat junk food.
Look, I love crap food as much as the next person, and plan to let DD have it in serious moderation when she's older. But this young? No. What would be the point, other than your own amusement? That's not really a good enough reason to feed the kid junk, IMHO.
And there's no reason you shouldn't. Enjoy it!
But what is the reason to give it to DS? If you really think about it, what would a 6 month old get out of that experience?
No way. What is the point? So you can be amused? That makes no sense to me.
Like a PP said, that's not fair to him. There will be plenty of time later in his life to enjoy those things with you.
No, I wouldn't.
That said, I'm getting a hearty chuckle out of the "not until 4!" people.
Talk to me in 2 years. I was that guy, too. It's funny the things we'd never do
LOL
Not to say that we might not change our minds, but I think it's easier to imagine not introducing junk food when we don't eat it as a family. I think it's been a good 6 or 7 years since we last had fast food...so I can't really picture us taking DD to McDonald's anytime soon! And cotton candy? I have never even tried that myself!
