This may be a dumb question, but how do you babyproof the things that can't be babyproofed? We live in a small apartment and our living room, dining room, office and kitchen are all one big room. Charlie is constantly trying to get at the computer, entertainment center, etc. We had boxes and laundry baskets piled up in front of them (I know, it doesn't look good) but now he is climbing and moving those as well. I am constantly having to pull him away and he doesn't quite understand (or chooses not to listen to) the word No. Any suggestions?
I am a 39 year old cancer surivor, vegetarian, and proud mom to Charlie Nathaniel!
Charlie is allergic to egg whites and peanuts.

Re: Toddler proofing
I have no idea. We have a fax machine that Michael wants to constantly push the buttons on the front. He has to walk around the computer chair and last time he fell and bloodied his nose.
We used the PNP and a big box to block off part of a bookshelf. The kitchen is gated and we have doorknob protectors to keep him out of the closet and bathroom. We've also taped up un-babyproofable drawers on the credenza.
Yeah, we're classy.

Yes.. you are not alone...my daughter takes our cable card out of the box ALL the time.. (shuts off the cable) and she routinely empties our DVDs/books out of the cabinet. Our flat screen tv is mounted on the wall up high. She loves the computer.. too..
In our kitchen and bathrooms we have these neat magnetic key locks on all the cabinets.. don't mess up the cabinets too much and can't see them. She hasn't figured out how to open them yet b/c we hide the key so she doesn't see. We have a baby gate blocking the entry to our house/ stairs and also one at the top of our staircase.
When she was younger.. I used 2 of the metal super playards which we made into a huge rectangle in our living room.. it kept her safe from 9-12 months old.. helped her learn how to pull up and stand (like she was in baby prison.. she used the bars to pull up!) ... I only took it down when she was one year bc we had her bday party.. everybody used to make fun of it.. but I didn't care.. it kept her safe. If you have space.. maybe you can do that.. we had two "doors" in/out of it...and our ottoman was inside the rectangle.. took up our whole area rug.
We bought a TV stand with locking front doors (from IKEA). It has glass doors so that remotes work with the doors closed. We keep the key up high so she can't get to it. I know glass doors aren't ideal, but I had visions of her pulling the tray off of the DVD player, so we keep it locked pretty much all the time.
We keep relocating some things to higher places where she can't get to them, but that won't work with everything. Mostly we just really try to watch her and deter her from things she shouldn't play with.
