Mass in gestational sac

This is an XP from first tri....

I'm a mess right now. I just had my 6w4d ultrasound and there is a baby in there with a heart beat - good news. The ultrasound tech told me that there is a large mass inside the sac with the baby that is NOT supposed to be there. She gave me no information or no idea of what it could be. It is larger than the baby and it is growing. She only said it could be a blod clot but she had no idea. So I left in tears with no information and need to wait for the doctor to review the films sometime today. She wrote down "complex echogenic structure of unknown etiology" --- please help! Any idea what this could be??

That sounds scary. I hope you are hanging in there ok. Let us know how we can help.

I'm not an OB, but I don't think it's a blood clot if it's echogenic (bright), since my SCH (a blood clot outside the gestational sac) showed up as a black space on u/s.

I hope this resolves for you and you get some answers soon.

I was thinking the same thing. The mass is definately white on the ultrasound pictures, it is not black. It's ridiculous that my RE/specialist has never seen this before in 25 years of practice. Only me. I go to the OB in a few hours, praying for good news.

Still up in the air. Saw my OB and she was stumped. She is referring my to a MFM to look at it. It could go either way at this point...but both doctors so far had no idea what it was.

I had the exact same thing found at my 6 week u/s.  At the time it was the size of a marble (so much bigger than baby) and they just told me to relax and wait until my 18 week u/s since it could be anything at this point (fibroid etc) and could do anything (get bigger, disappear etc). At 18 weeks, it was gone. I hope you have the same results.  Good luck!

OMG! I'm researching this because the EXACT same thing just happened to me at my 6w3d scan. Saw fetal pole and heartbeat but also saw a mass that my ob said she'd never seen in her 30 years there. Debra4869, what ever happened with yours? What did the doctors end up saying??
