Reusing gerber containers?

So this might be a stupid question but humor me :) can I wash them and put homemade food in them to send to daycare? I not talking about freezing food in them but thawing the food in them a sending that to daycare. WDYT?

Re: Reusing gerber containers?

  • I save the glass containers. I throw the plastic.

The glass is what I use to thaw out homemade purees.

  • Check to see what type of plastic it is.  I'm pretty sure there are some types of plastics that aren't approved for reuse.

Can somebody who knows more about recycling expand on this for me?

Ooh, good idea. I never thought to save the glass containers for homemade purees.  Do you store in them, or just thaw somehow?

  • I have the Gerber Nuk plastic bowls with lids. I put my cubes in there the night before with the lid snpped on to defrost. Works great. It's just like Tupperware.

I freeze them in ice cubes then store them in dated and labeled ziplock bags. I just thaw them overnight in the fridge.

  • I freeze food in Gladware Mini Rounds 4oz containers which are BPA free, freezer and microwave safe.  You can get a pack of 8 at Target or Wal-Mart for under $3 and make large batches of food.  However, my daycare does prefer glass jars, so I have 2 glass Gerber jars that I transfer the food into after thawing if LO is going to daycare.  Otherwise at home I just thaw and feed out of the Gladware container itself.
