I am allergic to alot of things with the worst being green beans, melons, nuts except peanuts, shellfish, avacados, bananas (especially if they are not ripe yet) and pumpkins. Did you wait to try baby foods you are allergic too?
Im really nervous about starting these foods. Of course i'm waiting until hes ready to start cereal and rice until he's ready. Our pedi told me to start cereal already but i dont think he quite ready yet.
Re: question for moms with allergies
ANY allergy(food or otherwise) will predispose your son to having food allergies. There is no history of food allergies in our family, but my husband is horrifically allergic to cats/dogs/environmental.
With that said, I would try foods a little at a time, one at a time and watch for a reaction. Stay away from the ones that you would not give to an infant(strawberries, honey, shellfish,pb), but I would definitely try out others.
We spoke very in-depth with my allergist and DS's allergist before introducing the foods that I'm allergic too**. They told us that we should still introduce them (although, we did delay those foods for a while) and to just watch him closely. He didn't react to anything (except nuts - but he has never actually intentionally ingested nuts) that I'm allergic to. Thankfully!
**On a sidenote, my allergies are incredibly similar to yours. Tree nuts, melon, avocado, banana, and others; but, did you know that all of those are related to each other? I was shocked when I found this out, and also, that series of allergies is also related to a latex allergy so just be aware of that in the future for you. If you google those allergies, you can find a lot more information about it. Kinda crazy!

I knew about the latex part because when i started working at the hospital they made me go get blood drawn to test for latex allergy and it came back asi was and had to goget a note from my dr stating i was allowed to work around latex
Since there is a family history, and your allergies sound pretty serious.. i would speak to your allergist and get her opinion about introducing foods and what's the best way. You probably have an allergist already which knows you very well.
IMO - There is no need to start introducing foods at 4 months old. I would wait until she's 6 months.. And maybe by 6 months you can have her tested. When you do introduce foods, introduce them very slowly and small amounts.
You are definitely way ahead of the game b/c you know what signs to look for if there is something going on.
Also, keep children's benadryl on hand --just in case.
This.
And just to add-my husband is very allergic to bananas (like throat-closing, ER visit allergic) and I was scared to death to try them with DD. I waited until she was about 9 months old and we already had a precription for a baby epi pen. She had no reaction whatsoever and are one of her favorite foods. So be prepared, watch for signs, but it doesn't necessarily mean that your LO will have allergies. GL!
Allergic to soy, oat, egg, peanuts, and tree nuts
I'm allergic to peanuts, treenuts, shellfish, seafood, wheat, eggs, milk, soy, green beans, and sorghum.
When I had DD, I was allergic to only peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, seafood, soy, and green beans. We introduced her to everything as it came with the exception of peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, seafood, and green beans. We decided to wait until 2 for all of those, just because we NEVER consume them and they're never in the house. And honestly, she is almost 7 and I can count on 1 hand how many times she's tried them. We've never actually sat her down and fed her peanuts/nuts. We've never actually fed her shellfish/seafood. But she's had accidental exposures (like it was an ingredient and she or we didn't know--we don't read labels for her usually) and has done fine. In fact, we were just discussing the fact that we feel ready to actually give her some peanuts or something to make sure she doesn't react to them so we don't have to make her avoid them anymore... we always just told people no peanuts/tree nuts because we weren't sure and didn't want her reacting on their watch.
With DS, though, he's had some stomach troubles that I'm pretty sure are unrelated to food allergies, but as a precaution he has yet to have any of the things I am allergic to (well, he had milk and soy in formula, but it didn't agree with him, so he's on Alimentum, which still has milk and soy but is broken down). We've decided we will introduce green beans and wheat at 9 months, and wait until 2 for peanuts/tree nuts/shellfish/seafood.
ETA: Also, I'd hold off on introducing solids until 6 months. Studies have shown that kids who are introduced to foods before 6 months who have family history of food allergies do have an increased likelihood of developing allergies themselves. (Called "leaky gut syndrome"--basically their bodies are underdeveloped to handle so many new nutrition sources and may cause them to react to them.)
