when is full term?

I saw a post earlier from many of you ladies about 37 weeks being full-term...for some reason, I always thought/was told that it was 38 weeks. I doubt its a huge difference this late in our pregnancies, I was just wondering....

  • At my birthing class the other day, the midwife kept referencing 37 weeks as full term.
  • I think most say 37-42 weeks, but my "Pregnancy week-by-week" book says 38-42 weeks is full term.

  • I thought it was 38 weeks too. I guess I'm closer than I thought.

  • Even though it really doesn't matter, do we count when we turn 37 weeks or when we complete 37 weeks?

This must be where the confusion is. I've always counted when you hit the 37 week mark, so 37 weeks, 0 days completed.

  • It must be when you hit 37 weeks, because when I was at my midwife appt this week at 35 weeks 3 days, she said I just had to keep him in there for two more weeks and she would be happy! =) Almost there!

  • If you have turned 37 weeks, you have completed your 37th week. 37w1d is the start of your 38th week.

  • 37.0 yep.. DD was 36.6 and labled preterm.. She was by no means a preterm baby..amazing what a day can do
  • Like what PPs have said, my doc also told me 37 weeks 0 days is when LO is full term and labor wont be stopped anymore. So for me its pretty much any day now... lol! So crazy to think about!!

40 weeks is considered full term, 37+ weeks is considered term, a baby born before this will be considered pre-term.
