Is it too early to buy the crib?

DH gets a bonus from work on the 15th and I really want to paint the room (a neutral color to freshen it up) and I want to buy the crib and the matching dresser. The crib and dresser are a great price and I think I can convince DH to let me do it...but is it too early?

Re: Is it too early to buy the crib?

  • I don't think so.  From what I've heard they can take some time to be delivered. We already have the crib from our first, but if we didn't, I would totally get one now.

  • I was just wondering the same thing since I spied a really nice set on craigslist.

I think as long as you have space to store it and a way to pay for it - go for it!

  • I like the way you ladies think! Smile

  • I already have mine picked out and in the hemming and haaawing it sold out . . . They are expecting more stock in September and my mouse finger will be ready to buy . . . If it's a good deal and EXACTLY what you want then go for it!!!

My sister just bought her wedding dress 11 months before the wedding, so why not buy a crib 6 months before baby?

  • Last time I bought my crib and dresser around 14 weeks bc it took six weeks to have it delivered. I remember it came right after my 20 week u/s, I made dh put the crib together and then we went out and bought bedding ;)

I think I had half the room painted by 16 weeks. We did a two tone, the bottom half was khaki then a chair rail and the top half depended on if it was a boy or girl.

This time around not so much.

  • We are going to order out crib soon, within the next couple of weeks and I am going to do some deep cleaning in my apartment and set up the baby crib and bedding once I am done with that so maybe mid-October I'll have the baby stuff set up.

  • We bought ours this weekend and have it together. Just gonna buy bit by bit. maybe next week or two the mattress, then the changing table. by then we'll have a few weeks until we find out what we'll be having and have time to save up for bedding, paint and additional fun stuff.

  • I say go for it!  We bought our crib at close to 9 weeks because it was nearly 50% off and on sale for $80....I didn't want to risk waiting with the hope that the price wouldn't go up so we bought it.  I'm glad we did because not only is the price back up, but they are now temporarily sold out!
  • Yikes, I must be a slow mover. I'm 14 weeks and my mother just recently reminded me to start on the registry. Due to the fact that I live far away from my family and if they wanted to come to the shower I should be getting things in order. I have been so focused on trying to get in school and other work related tasks I haven't really thought of the bed room or furniture. I'm just excited about finding out what we are having!! My husband and I have started a bank account though so when I have to take off we can have money saved to help out with the bills.
