I bought the Emily DaVinci Crib and just got the Sealy Soybean Everedge mattress on Saturday. I was going back and forth about whether or not to buy a used mattress, but then my mom and FI convinced me not to. Anyways, BRU was running a sale this weekend for Sealy mattresses and I got mine for $95 originally $150!
Naturepedic. Yes, it's pricey but it's also the safest mattress available. Given the huge number of hours an infant spends sleeping, pressed right up against their mattress, I am more than willing to pay a little more to ensure that they don't spend 18 hours out of every day inhailing toxins.
We bought it for our first and he'll be moving into his big boy bed with in a month so, we will use it for this baby as well. We do need a new crib but, not a new mattress
I bought the Colgate eco mattress. The only bad reviews I read were that it was too firm, and I really don't think it is. It reminds me of mattresses in Asia (that's random, I know, but if I can sleep on a mattress like that than I'm pretty sure a toddler will be fine).
Moonlight Slumber little dreamer. A bit expensive, but my baby is going to be sleeping on it every day ... I also live by Baby Bargains book, and this was one of the 'better' purchases.
We went by Baby Bargains and just did a foam mattress. That was my husband's call... not sure it's the one I would have made on my own, but that's what we're doing...

It's the #1 rated organic mattress according to Baby Bargains and super easy to change crib sheets since it's lighter than a traditional coil mattress.

I'm also getting the Naturepedic mattress. I know it's more expensive, but it's latex-free and that was important to us. I haven't bought it yet, but it's the one I plan on getting.
Re: For those who have bought a crib...

we are getting the Monarch crib mattress by Colgate, it has a firmer side for infant and a slightly softer side for toddler.
Pricey but worth it in my opinion
