overheated baby/stroller or carrier

At the end of this month, my husband and I are taking the baby to our county fair from around 4pm until closing at 10 pm and we are debating whether to bring the stroller or have my husband just carry her in the wearable carrier. We have pros and cons to each. The con to the stroller is its size in pushing through exhibits. For the carrier, we are looking for suggestions on how to keep the sun off the baby without totally covering her with a blanket. Also, what are some symptoms of a baby becoming overheated.

we just did this this weekend with our ds. we used our stroller, my sis used a carrier for a bit. i would suggest a hat & sunscreen. but a blanket would be best...also, i just learned that if you LOs soft spot indents more than usual that is a sign of dehydration.

i thought you cant use sunscreen on a 2 month old. the blanket could get her very hot, especially if the temp is above 80. i saw the soft spot indentation too but we want to cool her down before that happens if necessary.

True with the sunscreen, but you can always ask your pedi first. That's what the bottle says.

My LO usually lets us know she is hot by being fussy and sometimes get a little heat rash. I would use the stroller and avoid the body heat. Also maybe consider bringing along a wet wash cloth in a baggie and mini cooler to wipe baby off a bit. If you are BFing offer little drinks here and there. When hot my Lo just wants to nurse for a few minutes. Foremilk is very watery and to quench the thirst. If FF maybe have smaller bottles and give them more often. Good luck!

I would do stroller because in the carrier, LO will also have YOUR body heat increasing her temp, which is not good. LOs do sweat so you can tell by touching her ears to see if they are warm and damp. If they are, she's too hot.

I'd go for the stroller b/c if it's over 80 and LO is in the carrier, they're also getting your body heat. I used to volunteer at the Detroit Zoo (where it gets insanely hot in the summer). During training, they told us that the only time in recent years they'd had to call the paramedics was for an infant that overheated in a baby carrier.

I would probably use the stroller.

On another note, my sister shared this tip with me. When your car will be parked in the hot sun for a long time and you have your baby with you, put a couple of frozen water bottles in the car seat (if the car seat will be staying in the car). The seat will be cool when you return to your car and baby won't be in a hot car seat. You may want to put the bottles in a zip-loc in case they drip a little.
