What to ask when visiting/interviewing preschools?

I am about to start visiting and interviewing preschools for my 3yr old son.  What are the best questions to ask in your opinion and how long did the visits/interviews take on average? Thanks!

As you tour and talk to the principal, you'll come up with questions.  Also, read their website or informative literature, and as you come up with questions write them down.

I was a teacher before I had my son. In addition to some of the bullets on that list, the big things I looked for during a visit:

    1. warm, enthusiastic, genuine teacher-student interactions--also how did the teacher interact with my son on our visit

    2. warm, cheery and inviting classroom where materials are easily accessible for kids

    3. students' artwork on the walls, not just commercially-prepared posters and signs, etc.

    4. how are books are available for the children? Are they set up in a special place only for the teacher or are they easy for kids to view and reach? Are books rotated?

    5. Outdoor play area

    6. Schedule

    7. policy on toilet training and development
