Tongue gymnastics

I'm talking about my baby, get your mind out of the gutter.

Seriously, she's working the tongue lately, twisting it over, curling it up, etc. She's blown raspberries and done the "giraffe tongue" thing (stick it out as far as possible and then smile like a maniac) for a while, but the flipping and curling is new. Is anyone else's LO doing this? Is it a teething thing? Working on speech? I need to know!

I'm thinking it's teething. We are getting a ton of funny faces with her attempts to suck on her gums in addition to the tongue gymnastics!

Yep. Her tongue twists in ways I didn't think were physically possible.

DS does this. I think it could be teething or speech. As the first poster said, DS sucks in his lips. I think that has to do with teething (i.e. the lips are something to bite on). But I think the tongue curling is language; our LOs are moving their tongues around to see what different sounds come out with it in different positions. Sure enough he is often talking when he's doing it.

recently griff has been running his tongue along his bottom gums/lip so i think that is teething.

Hmm.. sounds like a combination of language and teething, then. She's usually not sucking on her lips when she does it, nor is she always vocalizing. At least I'm glad to know I don't have the only weirdo kid who does this! She's definitely teething (looks like the top 2 are coming in soon).
