I found out at my 36wk appointment yesterday that my doctor is going on vacation for the next 3.5wks, and that his office will be open only part time (1-2x/week), covered by his colleagues, but otherwise, the nurse & receptionist are also taking their vacation time. My doc will be back to work on my due date - September 6.
Oh well. Am I freaking out? No. Am I a bit bummed? Yes, because my hubby and I really like my doctor - picture a tall & handsome mid 50s doctor, with the bedside manner/personality cross between Dr.Ross (from ER), and House. (DH likes his personality, I like both the personality AND the good looks! )
My doc is one of the senior OBGYN's (he's also one of the high-risk Perinatologists) at my hospital. My doc's office is across the street from the hospital, which is 5-10min away from my house.
I'm honestly not worried, I know I will be taken care of well, as my hospital is one of the larger ones (maternity ward is entire 2nd floor), and it has a great reputation. Regardless of who ever I do end up getting to attend/look after me, I will have no problem voicing my opinion.
My hubby is following my lead and taking it in stride as well, but my mom & the rest of my family are NOT impressed - LOL - and are now getting even more anxious. Some people are actually a bit shocked at my confident & "laisse faire" attitude, considering I am a FTM. However, in the grand scheme of things, as long as me & Baby are happy and healthy, that's all I care about.
Anyone else with doctor surprises of their own?
Re: Surprise! My doctor is going on vacation.
Hello. I've waited here for you. Everlong<3<br>
Woaw...good luck with that! Just tell your LO to stay inside for a while longer.
I really, really like my OB too, but I have no delusions about the fact that she may not actually be the one to deliver my baby. Frankly, I don't really care who delivers my baby, as long as they are competent. I'm delivering at one of the best hospitals around, so I'm sure that anyone there is competent and able to deliver my child and make sure that both of us are healthy and happy throughout the process. My OB and her entire staff has been wonderful throughout my pregnancy and I feel like that is really what I'm looking for in an OB more than the 10 minutes when she'll actually come in the delivery room to catch the baby.
If I were high risk or knew in advance that I was going to be having a c-section or something like that, my attitude might be different, but with my extraordinarily normal and healthy pregnancy, it doesn't seem all that important to me who actually delivers LO.
