December 2010 Moms

Those with LOs born within days of Christmas

How are you doing LO's 1st birthday?

I was never planning a big party or anything since we don't have any family here, but I would at least like to have something small for her, friends and cake and such. It is just such a rough time with her b-day being Dec. 28. The weekend before is Christmas and the weekend after is New Years.  Most of our friends are out of town visiting their families for the holidays and like I said we don't have family here.

What are you all planning to do?

BFP #1 9/23/09. Missed MC 10w3d D&C 11/3/09.

BFP #2 4/13/10. Bridget born 12/28/10

Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Re: Those with LOs born within days of Christmas

  • B's bday is the 22nd. I think we're having his party the 17th. So the weekend before christmas. Its the only good plan I could come up with. But I figured thats what we'll do every year, to have it the week before his bday. This is mainly for my side of the family. Im about 40 mins from all my family so thats what we'll do. The only family in same town is IL's, SIL & family so we'll have a seperate party for DH's family which is 1.5 hrs the other way from my family. We get with DHs family the sunday before Christmas & do presents in evening so figured ill set up some bday decor & do his bday in the AM/afternoon then christmas that evening. Guess my situation is different since 1 side of family is one direction & the other the other way. Idk again this is the only thing I could come up with. We'll see

  • Her birthday is 12/24, so yeah tough. We have a hard enough time getting together with family for Christmas so I don't know. Probably just something small the weekend after. I am not into big kids parties - until they know what they are all about it - so it does not bother me that much.
  • I originally wasn't planning on throwing a party for my LO whose b-day is Dec 17.  First because he's only going to turn 1 and wouldn't really understand what is going on.  Second because it's so close to the holidays that everyone usually has other celebration plans.  But my husband and in-laws insist that we must have a party for his 1st birthday.  This year it falls on a Saturday, so we'll have a party on his actual birthday and my family and DH's family will make the 400 mile trip down to celebrate wtih us.

Your B and my B have the same birthday so we're in the same boat.

My family is talking of coming down that week, although my brilliant sister wants to fly down on Monday and fly home on Saturday - who comes to visit working people during a work week?!?!?  But I digress.  If I can get the days off of work, we'll just have a small family party on his actual birthday.  I would hope that my MIL and SIL could arrange to have one day (or even one afternoon) off that week. If that doesn't work then we'll probably do something on the afternoon of the 31st (the Saturday after his birthday).

We weren't going to have a big party anyway so hopefully coordination shouldn't be a big deal.

    BFP #1 4/14/10. Big B born 12/28/10.

    BFP #2 5/27/12. EDD 2/1/13. m/c and D&C 6/21/12.
  • Abby's birthday is 12/26. In Canada, that's boxing day ( think.. black friday) So when she gets older it will be great to take her shopping for her birthday ( everything will be 50%off! lol)

We don't have any family in town ( they're over 3000km away) so I think we're going to have a small party with friends and their kids maybe the week before Christmas.

  • Timber was born 12/26 and since we don't have family close by we'll probably celebrate with them early like we do christmas every year, DH usually has to work it.  I'll do a bigger party when she's old enough to appreciate it like a late one the weekend after New Year's or something....
  • Elliott's birthday is 12/30, so we're right there with you with the weekend before being Christmas, and the one after New Years. Since my family is coming into town for his b-day, we'll be having his party (very small party) on NYE. I figure, most of our friends that will be invited go out at night for NYE, so stopping by his party for an hour or so in the afternoon shouldn't be a big deal =)

  • H's is the 21st, so ideally we would do something small (just family and a couple of our very close friends) the weekend before. Unfortch, DH and I sing in a chorus and we have a concert that weekend - concert Sunday and dress rehearsal on Saturday, so I don't know what the heck we're going to do. Sad

  • 12/24 here.  We usually have family at the house for a big lasagna dinner anyway for Christmas Eve.  This year it will just have more of a birthday theme I suppose.  Come next year and the years when she will know that it's HER day...I'm not so sure how we will proceed.

This...DS's bday is on the 17th so we will probably have a small family/close friends get together. I'll leave the themes parties, games and party bags until he is a little bit older. Although I do have a few friends with LO's around the same age I would have no idea on how to keep everyone entertained.

  • Joanna's is also the 17th. DH is deployed right now and he'll be home for R&R in Jan or Feb so I think I'm just going to wait until he's home for us to have something for her.

  • B's is 12/22. We will have a small celebration with just us and the grandparents on his actual birthday and a party with family and friends after the first of the year. We figured the weekend before Christmas is too busy for most people.

This, minus the lasagna!  (Though that sounds good!)   We usually spend Christmas Eve with my family and Christmas Day with DH's family, so I don't know how it's going to pan out this year.   I'd like to turn the Dec. 24th focus on DS' birthday...but then not sure how we'll do Christmas with my family.

We'll probably just have family for his party.  Our families are small and close by though, so I think we should try to do something on his birthday.  Later on, kid parties will probably be in January.

  • Jaycie's birthday is december 23rd, so I'm planning on throwing her a little party on the 17th, and then any family that can't make it can just give birthday and christmas presents on christmas day. I do hope that we can keep these two special days seperate though...stinks having a birthday so close to christmas!
