My first DS was born via c-section. He was large (9lb and 11 oz) and he was sunny side up. I pushed for 3+ hours and LO went no where.
I had my US tonight and found that DS2 is measuring ahead/large as well. I am at 37 weeks and DS2 is measuring 40/41 weeks.
I am torn about what to do. I am not sure if position was a large factor in DS1's failure to progress or if it was his size. I would hate to be in labor for 3 hours again just to end up with another C-section.
I do not want another c-section because the recovery is a pain. My incision tore after about a week. The restrictions drove me nuts. I am worried this time especially because I have a 34 lb two year old to take care of.
Has anyone been in a similar situation and have any advice?
Re: to vbac or not to vbac
Oh gosh, it's so hard b/c you don't really know what's going to happen either way. However, I went into my VBAC not caring if I went through all the labor just to have another c/s (I was induced for 3 nights, went home and then was in labor for 19 hours and got to 9ish, but never pushed). For me I knew I wanted to give it a shot and didn't want to automatically have surgery, you know?
That being said, it was still mentally exhausting and messed with my head a lot in the final weeks and during labor. I think talking things through like you are doing here or even with your local ICAN or a doula is great. For me the unknown was the hardest part. I lost part of the innocence that I had the 1st time around when I didn't think a c/s could happen to me.
Were you induced last time, epi, anything like that? It is amazing how much of a difference baby's position can make and I have seen several women on here have some big VBAC babies (9+ pounds). My c/s baby was 8.2 and my VBAC baby was 8.11 and two inches shorter, she's a chunker!
I had this plan in my head when I went into my VBAC. With DS1, I pushed for 4+ hours until my MW did an u/s and it was determined he was sunny-side up, and I had a c-section. I figured if pushing took more than 3 hours with my VBAC, or it seemed like the baby wasn't budging, then I would opt for an epidural or another c-section. I pushed for 2 hours with DS2, and it became pretty apparent fairly soon that he was going to come out.
FWIW, DS2 (my VBAC baby) was 10 lb, 10 oz, but lined up correctly (I think positioning has a ton to do with how easily babies come out). We had no idea he was that large, though, as I refused u/s at the end. There's also this article that I ran into yesterday:

hth. Good luck deciding, and I hope it works out for you!
