Re: PCP/ TTC/ ATP Wednesday
ATP - Same as usual here. LO has started to tell the daycare staff when she has poop in her diaper so last night I went to a consignment sale and picked her up a potty chair and a toilet ring (side track - does anyone find it gross to buy a used potty? The friend I was with did. It's not like it still had crap in it, I'll wash it and it's fine. Right?). I don't expect anything amazing but at least she'll have them in the house if she starts to show interest.
QOTD - I have to run but I'll come back and update.
Hey, look at that! I started a thread and didn't even know it, lol!
Two, I'm interested to hear how it goes! Peanut tells us when she has pooped (and sometimes just before), and Little Man is starting to, too (not in words, though-- Peanut says "poo" but LM just points to or tugs at his diaper). We keep meaning to bust out the potty chairs, but haven't yet. How exactly does this work? I don't want to freak them out and interrupt their going while trying to get their pants/diapers off...

Clorox/clorox wipes and all is good! How many different toilet seats have we all sat on over the years without wipes (and under the assumption that the toilet paper we place on the seat really blocks germs)?
There are six kids in our family and I am the youngest by 5 years from the next and my father passed away when I was 12...i.e. my sibs probably have had more adventurous family trips than I. (I wasn't born when my father was stationed in Europe...and I know they traveled there.)
The two trips I remember taking were to California and the Disneyland, Sea World, Magic Mountain, Knott's Berry Farm, and San Diego zoo circuit. One summer my father had me on a super strict diet (I always had a weight problem) and there was a restaurant that served a melon-ball-sized scoop of raspberry sherbert with the meal. It WAS SO GOOD...I can still taste it. It sure did beat what I had been eating. That same trip my Mom snuck me money for a chocolate covered frozen banana. I ate it sitting on the floor of the tramway at Disneyland. I thought my Dad had eyes everywhere...LOL! I really enjoyed that trip!
(Oh, we drove everywhere.)
Ky has been walking more independantly. She will now take steps on her own to get to things instead of us coercing her to do so. She walked from the edge of the dining room to the fridge and then from the one couch to the other. It is too cute because we start clapping for her and saying "yeah Kylie!" and she will smile/laugh and start clapping too. Then she will stop and randomly start clapping again and expect us to start as well. Other than that not much going on other than her discovering the door knob and pulling on it while saying "byebye"
TTC: I am not sure where we are here. I am still dieting and taking the metformin waiting on my cycle to get back to normal. Ann has decided she does not want to do it anymore. I am starting to feel like maybe 1 is all we were meant to have and I should be thankful for that. It is just hard to think of and I know Ann has no deisre to have a one child family.
*True: FWIW I do not think it is gross to buy a used potty. It is clean and I am sure you will clean and sanitize it again. Ky got one for her birthday but if she had not we would probably have been looking consignment shops.
QOTD: We always took a family vacation in the summer. Usually we went to Sea World (when there was one in Sandusky, OH) or Gatlinburg and met my relatives from AL/GA there. We always drove. I did not ride in a plane until I was in the 8th grade and went on a school sponsored trip to DC.
Jen's progesterone test came back at a 2 on Monday, so we have given up on this 2WW. Her doctor wants to start her on Clomid. I feel like it's early (this was only our second cycle), but I know some people are on Clomid from the beginning. We are doing some research and I have read back through the board FAQs but I would really appreciate any thoughts, insight, experiences, etc. you have about Clomid, side effects, etc. Medication in general worries me, and the fact that my mom was just diagnosed with kidney disease and her doctor thinks it is related to Crestor is not helping me feel enthusiastic about putting my Jen on anything.
QOTD: We traveled rarely growing up, and always by car. We took two long trips to the coast (once to Washington, once to Massachusetts/Maine) and a short trip to visit relatives in Arkansas. That's it. When Jen was growing up they traveled 1-2x per year, but basically only went to Disney World. Maybe that's why we have taken so many trips together as adults
PCP: Test results so far are not indicating anything unexpected. Which is to say I expect to get a PCOS dx at our next appointment. I'm looking at this as good news, since so far nothing else is wrong! Hopefully we'll be able to do an IUI someday. :P
Leapgirl - I also have a general fear of medication, which is why talk of Metformin is making me anxious. But I know that I was conceived with Clomid, so knowing it has been around so long with little sign of hazard makes me feel better.
QOTD: My family traveled a fair amount, but usually to two places. One set of grandparents lived in CA and one set lived in CO where we also had a cabin. We flew to CA and if we went to CO in winter. Every summer we drove to CO (abt 20 hours). (I grew up in MN). We also took a big trip to HI when my grandfather was dxed with cancer when I was 3. My sister went to college in the NE, so for those years we often drove to pick her up/drop her off, and did some vacation stuff along the way. I feel like I spent a lot of time in the car as a child!
But I have some great memories of the license plate game and the routine of memorizing every stop and stopping at the same restaurants/hotels along the way. Only a child can absolutely love a specific random cheapo motel in Lusk, Wyoming!

This are pretty good at our house. We've been working on some pre reading through games and new books and while Gray is really into it and excited to read, Carter could care less and makes up sounds, goofs off, etc. We are getting a good glimpse into what homework is going to be like with him this year - and it isn't pretty. Sigh.
Grayson is working on some anger management issues - when he doesn't get what he wants, he sometimes hits, bites, kicks, etc. Typically it is reserved for his brother but there has been some causalities at school too. So he's lost some privileges this week.
Carter had an accident in the car yesterday (totally my fault for 1) not making him go to the bathroom before leaving the restaurant and 2) pushing to get home rather than pulling off to let him go. He is in our new booster seats while his seat is being washed. We are planning on using the boosters as our extra seats for now and keep them in 5 point restraint seats awhile longer for safety reasons - but darn they are so much less cumbersome, easier to clean, easier to get in and out of, etc. I am having to convince myself to get him back in the Marathon.
QOTD: We mainly traveled up and down the east coast. My parents and grandparents were from Maine, so we went there every summer (sometimes by car and sometimes by plane.) We would stop along the way, Boston, NYC, etc. One set of grandparents lived in Florida during the winter, so we went there a lot too - and often went to Disney (since it was one of my mom's (and now mine!) favorite places!) We went to California once for my 13th birthday and did the tourist circuit. Fun fact - when I was 4y my parents started sending me on the plane by myself to go from New Jersey to Maine to spend a week or two with my grandparents. You had to be 5y and so they taught me to lie when asked. Sigh. I cannot.imagine. sending the boys unescorted on a plane - at least for quite sometime. I guess life was different in the 70s.
Not much new going on here, waiting to see if Bear goes home this week. Found out that I might have rheumatoid arthritis... J came to me this morning concerned how it will affect my body in the future, I am worried too.
QOTD: We didn't really travel when I was young but we would drive to visit my grandparents who lived 2 hours away.
Two Mommies Healing Hearts
Leap - first I really appreciate that you read through the FAQs! ;-) Secondly, I was on clomid but not for any medical reason. Just to up our odds. I had no side effects. Maybe a bit more thirst than normal but not the clomid crazies that other people talk about.
To answer my own QOTD - We never traveled out of state and we never flew anywhere. My first flight was for an 8th grade field trip to D.C. Most of our vacations involved camping, short weekend trips, or going to my grandparents vacation home. I don't know that I have a favorite story or memory although I'll always have wonderful memories of spending time at the beach with my family and my dad digging my brother and I huge sand forts to hang out in.

Not much going on here. Hoping to do most of the smoke detector installing/babyproofing/etc. this weekend before our last (I think) visit with our licensing worker on Tues. Lots of baby shower drama (still) which I am just done with and makes me feel bad. It's not the same if you have to ask for something (or discuss it to death.) Sad and stressed about it today.
QOTD: We drove frequently to visit my grandma about 2 hours away. I do remember singing in the car, especially singing Christmas songs on the way back from visiting. I never slept in the car. My poor parents.

Lilka seems to cry a lot in her sleep ( LIKE LAST NIGHT ) whats that about anyone ? SOUND ASLEEP but almost wailing ????
Trying to work it all out .....
I went on trip when i was a kid Hawaii twice and then Catalina often. We flew or drove. It was always an adventure. I guess Hawaii sticks out to me most ... it was a bug deal for a 7 year old.. but al i remember was my cousin throwing up chocolate milk all over the breakfast table at a restaurant.

We're still in PCP mode until at least fall. Focused on guests throughout August, work, the house and our relationship. I'm focused on my new career addition via prereqs.
QOTD: I have lots of great travel/"adventure" memories from my childhood. We traveled and did daytrips around Southern California (where I grew up) quite a bit throughout my childhood. My mom and I would go with my nana to her work conferences and hangout in the hotel and often a pool for a few days. When I was 4-5yo my dad took us on a roadtrip by RV from California to Maine with lots of fun stops and then time in our family's cabins in Maine before driving back. It was over 6 weeks and the longest I had been away from my mom. Two years later we spent almost 2 months in Hawaii (my first plane ride). When I was about 12, I came up here for the first time for my uncle's wedding. Then, when I was 14 my mom, sister and I moved to Georgia and then did lots of little trips around the South. My first flight by myself wast from Georgia to Washington to visit my nana who had moved up here. Then my mom, sister and I did a moving roadtrip from GA to WA. At 16, I flew dad to stay with my dad and he and I drove my first car (an old Volvo he gave me) back up here. The rest of my travels were more as an adult.
1) can you be there during rounds? All of the docs will be there and you can ask questions.
2) Ask the bedside nurse if s/he can explain it to you.
3) Ask to speak to the NICU social worker and ask to have a family meeting with the doctor set up. It will be you, the doc, and the primary nurse and whoever else you want to attend.
Good luck!
C can start driving Friday, so maybe. Are rounds at standard times? We've only run into the doc twice, before I went back to work. The nurses have been really nice, but I feel like they can only tell us so much. There's no NPs in the intermediate nursery either. I HAVE seen the social worker's name (there's a list of people by the door) - do I just ask the nurse for her number?
thanks for the advice
Rounding times vary by hospital and by unit. Some hospitals allow parents to be present, some don't. They are typically 2x a day (once in the AM and once in the PM.) Ask the bedside nurse when they are. S/he will know.
Yes, you can ask the nurse to page the SWer or ask for her direct number. They will give it to you.
You can also ask to speak to the neonatologist directly.
QOTD: I started taking a trip to Florida with my aunt, uncle and mom's mom when I was 7 and my brother was 11. It was the first time I saw the beach. Before that we would always go to Liberty Land and we always drove. The first time I ever flew on a plane it was around the world to Italy with my friends when I was 16. Talk about nervous. My family always went to Florida though, every year and eventually more than just us 5 went. But always driving. Now my parents and little sister are gone 5 times a year on a vacation
The good: We had the kiddos' post-op (ear tubes+) visit yesterday with the ENT, and both of them have had improvement in their hearing. Little Man's hearing is MUCH improved. We're thrilled!!
The not-so-good: Peanut's chickpea and sesame tests came back-- she is allergic to both. Very allergic to sesame, which earned her her very own epi pen script. After seeing how high her chickpea levels were, the Dr decided that she should have been tested for peanuts after all (like.we.asked the first time!! ARGH!!!) since there is a chickpea-peanut relationship, so when we were there for Little Man's appointment they drew blood AGAIN from Peanut to test for peanuts. They also tested Little Man for peanuts, sesame, and chickpea (blood test) and soy and shellfish (skin prick-- both negative). We should have those blood test results in a week or two.
The what the...?: Peanut has started doing some scary, funky eye movements. It started last Thursday with her eyes rolling back into her head towards her left. Only lasts a few seconds then it's done. Within the past few days she has also started looking up and dropping her chin to her chest to see you while her eyes are pointed up. Guess we're calling the neurologist... sigh. We got video of the second thing last night at dinner, but haven't caught the eye rolling yet (only tried once-- it comes and goes so fast!).

Things in our house are status quo. E is excited about the start of kindergarten in a few weeks when she gets to move to the room with the big lockers! Ha...such a girl.
As a child we took a lot of what I would call local trips. Places within driving distance like to Seattle to see the Mariners play, to my grandparents houses, etc. We flew to California when I was about 12 and did Disney, Knotts Berry, Sea World, the wax museum, Universal Studios all in one trip.
The two best traveling memories of my growing up years...when I was about 15 my parents took my brother and I on a fishing trip off the coast of Vancouver, Canada and I was the lucky fisher in our boat catching quite a few. Then in the summer before my senior year of high school, I went with a church group to Tijuana, Mexico to build a home for a family there in about 3 days. I will never forget the looks on their faces. They had been living in a tiny shack and what we built was so much better.
Things here are good. After rejecting the pnp on vacation I was super freaked out that E would not want to sleep in her crib and also that we would have to sleep train her. She was not going to bed until 9 or 10 and one of us had to sleep with her in the big bed (not the most romantic vacation). Well I am happy to report that she is back to her good sleeping self. Down at 7:30 and back up at 7 or 7:30 with an awesome nap. Thank god my good sleeper is back. Now we just have to transition her to going to daycare again. She was not a happy camper on Tuesday.
When we were very young we mostly just traveled in New England and camped. We also spent a couple of weeks every summer on my grandfather's dairy farm in VT. My dad and uncle built a cabin on the farm (25 min walk from the house and barn) one summer. I think it was one of my favorite vacations. They built the platform the summer before from wood from the old silo and we spent our two weeks in the woods in tents with all my cousins while the adults built the cabin (one room downstairs and a sleeping loft upstairs) with only hand tools. It was really fun and I love going out there still and staying in the cabin.
