Teething at 15 Weeks?!? Decreased Appetite. Worried Mom

My daughter just turned 15 weeks old and has shown a decreased appetite, a little more drooling than normal, and sucking on her hands. She has had horrible reflux since birth and is constantlly spitting up, so the doc had me up her rice cereal in her bottle from 2tsp per 8oz to 4tsp per 8oz. She has been constipated since the increase so has been getting 1oz apple juice. Could the increase on cereal cause the decrease in appetite? She has had no fever and as of last night slept great, her usual 8 hours. Should I be concerned or just sum it up to teething and or a growth spurt?

Oh and I see nothing in her mouth as far as teeth cutting through.

  • Around 2-3 months your LO's salivary glands kick in. That could be it, but I know some moms that swear their kids started teething at early ages (even though teeth never appeared until 6+ months). If you really think she's teething, you could try some baby orajel.

  • Both my children had decreased feedings around this time. Not because they were not hungry but because they are to interested in what is around them to even be concerned with eating. E is so consumed with his surroundings sometimes I can only get 2 ounces into him. He normal drinks 5-7ounces.The cereal would definitley fill her up more.

  • DD went on a hunger strike right around this same time too.  She hardly ate for about 7 days.  She also had explosive diapers 2-3 times a day, it was crazy.  But all in all she was fine and eventually got her full appetite back.

In the past for constipation we had really good luck with prune juice. Never tried apple.

Easier said than done, but try not to worry too much unless there is fever or weight loss. I think it may be pretty normal around this age.

This exactly. DS is back to his hungry self!

  • Its certainly possible.  My LO cut both her bottom teeth right at 4 months.  She never ran a fever and the only night of interrupted sleep was right before they actually poked through.  She was drooling a ton by 3 months but I never thought she'd get her teeth that early!
