FYI Vasectomy Info

So, TMI I'm sure, but we've been researching vasectomies and came across an article that was discussing failure rates (e.g. suprise pregnancies) between the vasectomy and tubal ligations.

1. It's incredibly rare, but the vas deferens can sometimes reconnect if the space in the cut is not large enough.

2. Also, and this is key: It can take up to a YEAR for the guy's pipes to empty out, so to speak. It's recommended that you use back-up BC for an extended period of time because there could still be active sperm in the funnel. It ain't a quick fix, ladies.

ETA: We're probably still shooting for a vasectomy. DH said it's his turn to take one for the team. :)

    We are planning on going the vasectomy route when it's time for permanent birth control.  We keep on going back and forth...one day he's ready to make the appointment, but I'm not and then I'm ready to make the appointment, but he's not.  Ugh!  We just both need to make our mind's up.

    Us too! If we have a third I'll get my tubes tied if not then dh will go for the big V as we call it. Dh does joke that both of us might get fixed!

    I dunno what we'll do if and when that time comes, but I do have a friend whose 3rd daughter happened AFTER her tubal ligation, FWIW. :)  I vote for DH getting snipped; I'll have been through enough physical discomfort by that point, he can take one for the team!!
