s/o carseats - wdyd if you share DC pickup/dropoff?

Currently we one Graco Snugride and two bases.  DH does daycare drop off and I do pick up in separate cars.  Does anyone else do this, and once you switch to a non-carrier seat, do you have two convertibles or do you share one vehicle?

  • We got two convertibles. It's the pricier option, but the flexibility for either parent to transport the kid, and the flexibility to take either car, made it "priceless" for us.

  • Yep, bought one for each car.  Waited for a sale on albeebaby dot com and then ordered.  In fact, we just ordered DS1's booster seats since all Britax are on sale. It costs more but DS2 will use the seats too.  Also, I didn't like the thought of one of us being "stuck" because we didn't have the car with the seat in it. Or if we forgot to move it over to the other car or something.

  • Buy more seats.

We now have five (!!!) - three in the van, and two in the truck.  Dang, that's like $1400 worth of safety right there!

Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
  • New seat for both cars (plus a third for grandpa for when he does the occasional pickup).  There's no way we could trade cars so that we could just buy a seat for one.

  • Yep, one in each car. Plus DH's parents have the Cosco Scenera in their car because they sometimes transport DD#1. I guess we'll have to get the grandparents another Scenera for when they start transporting DD#2 as well. So, after DD#2 outgrows the Snugride, we will be the proud owners of 6 car seats, a Snugride, and 2 bases. Not to mention the strollers: the Snap-n-Go stroller, two Maclaren Volo's (one for each car), another Maclaren for the grandparents, a single City Elite jogger, and a double City Mini. No wonder I feel overwhelmed with too much stuff!

    This is us too.

  • Our daycare had a closet for car seats. My husband did drop off andleft car seat in closet. I did pick up and got it from the closet before picking up DS. That closet was a $$$ saver! :) Now we have Britax Marathons in each car.

  • same as everyone else. When kids were in the baby seat, we left the seat with the baby and had 2 bases. Now we have 2 Marathons in each car, plus 2 (cheaper) car seats in my parents' car. Yep, that's a lot of $$ invested in car seats!

  • same here. we each have a carseat in our car. I definitely would not want to have to install that thing everyday.

  • We used two Britax Roundabouts and now have a Graco Nautilus (hate it) and a Britax Frontier (love it).  My DD is 4 years old and these will be our last carseats since they switch to boosters.  Totally worth the money, IMO, to have one for each car.  Also, as she has gotten older and spends time with her grandparents in PA without us, we can transfer a carseat to them and not have to worry about not having one or forgetting it.
