Eisley?

It's our second favorite choice...the one I kind of want to go with if we have a girl. However, I like the original spelling of "Eisele." I had my mom ask around her office today if anyone liked/disliked it so I could try and make my mind up, and most everyone said it sounded too 'ethnic.' I have no clue what that means, as it does not sound hispanic or african-american or caucasian or anything else to me...it just sounds like a universal name. I personally think is a pretty, modern name and I have never heard anyone with it.

What are your thoughts on it?

Re: Eisley?

  • I've never heard of this name before...which is probably what your mom's co-workers meant by ethnic, instead they probably meant unique or uncommon.

It's a pretty name. However, I will warn you, that as someone with a very unusual name myself, it may be difficult for her during her school years. I had lots of teachers and classmates mispronounce my name constantly. As a child it was confusing and frustrating to correct them. On the other hand, I get lots of compliments once people understand how to say my name.

    My thoughts exactly.

  • It's pretty. I like the original spelling. It doesn't sound to "ethnic" to me. I really like unique names that no one else has.

  • Eyes-lee is how it's pronounced. Growing up, my name was still considered unique and I had people mispronouncing it constantly...I still do to this day! I was called mary-eye at the DMV the other day...sad :( But I agree that the name is unique, and I think that's what they must have meant. I really just don't get the 'ethnic' reference of it...that was just weird to me.

    Is it Eyes-Leigh?

    Yes :)

  • I think it might be confusing since some people will think the S is silent so it could be pronounced Eye-Leigh which is super cute too
  • I had never heard this as a first name before, I do think it's pretty. If I saw Eisley I would say eyes-lee, but if I saw Eisele I would probably have said "e-sell." I still think that spelling is prettier, though.

    What about Eislee?

All of this.  To this day, I have to really listen to how someone might say my name at the doctor's office, in case I don't realize it's me.  When I am at a restaurant where they call your name when your food is up, I make up a common name so I don't have to worry about it.  My name actually has all the same letters as Eisley except the i, and in a different order.  Somehow people just miss an entire letter or flip them around in a different order, or omit letters altogether.  But like the person above mentioned, once people know how it's pronounced, I get compliments.

  • Eisley is Americanized from the Swiss surname Eisele. As a baby name, Eisley means "cheerful".

This happens to me too. My name is Mariah, and I always get calls asking for Marian or Maria or Miranda. And at restaurants, it's always Miranda or Mary-eye...so weird. I didn't mind dealing with it because like you and the PP, once they know how to say my name I also get compliments :) Which I'm sure if people mispronounce Eisley, they will compliment it once they hear the correct pronunciation Big Smile

At least, I hope so! Haha

  • I don't like it, sorry. It sounds like you took two sounds "eyes" and "lee" and just smooshed them together.

  • It's a band... they have some cute little songs.  I think some names just sound like people picked random sounds they liked together and said, "I think I'll name my baby that."  I think that's what Eisley kind of sounds like. Sorry. :/

I didn't know there was a band called Eisley :/ I found the name in a baby book at Barnes & Noble the other day and fell in love with it.

Ugh, I feel like every name I find has some flaw that I hate.

  • I think the biggest dislike about the name is that SO many people will get it wrong.

  • I like it.  I don't think it sounds ethnic at all.  There is a singer/band called Eisley and she has a really cute song called "Tree Tops"  I always thought it would be a cute song to sing to a little girl.
