TTC After a Loss

s/o HCG levels

Did anyone ever not have very high of HCG levels?

For my first m/c I started spotting and then the next day knew for sure I was miscarrying. I went and got a beta that day and it was only 9, I was supposed to be 5 weeks then.

With my second my betas levels are listed in my siggy and the 3rd beta was negative, so they were never high either.

I wish I knew why my body couldn't keep developing an embryo past that very beginning stage and why my betas didn't ever rise! ugh!

Re: s/o HCG levels

  • They probably were higher at some point, but had already begun to drop when they were checked. With my chemical pregnancy my betas were super low. They probably never got above a 30 or so before they started dropping.  I didn't have any tissue tested until my 3rd m/c and per my MD that event should be an isolated one. So that'll always be a mystery.

  • Me.  This seems to be my issue too.  I never get past the very first stages.  With my first m/c, my betas only got up to 70 something, with this one, only 30.  It's frustrating.  I hate my stupid body.

  • I didn't have a set of beta's done prior to my miscarriage. I miscarried on a friday and my appointment for blood work was for that following monday. I was at first "threatening miscarriage" and beta's were drawn then and it was only 20. On the monday I still went to my appointment and got another set done and it was back to normal. So I feel that my beta's were never really high to begin with.

  • This is a really dumb question but would the polyps and fibroids be inside my uterus? I ask because I had a lap and there was nothing on the outside or on my ovaries.

Also, are there any other things that could cause implanting problems? I was on progesterone with the 2nd m/c on the highest dose I believe because I truly thought it was a progesterone problem, too!

I'm going to ask my RE this question at my appointment.  I'll keep you posted with what I find out.

  • Implantation issues can also be caused by a too thin uterine lining.  I had simmilarly low beta numbers for my last MC, (my first was only 11 at 12 DPO and then sort of seemed to max out at 500 or when I should have been 6 weeks), and my suspicion is that clomid caused a thining of the lining.  When you are monitored on clomid sometimes a Dr. will prescribe Estrace (sp), which is an estrogen patch or pill to help "plump" up the lining to support implantation. I was borderline low and my Dr. didn't prescribe it.  If I could go back I would insist on it.  It might be something to inquire about.  Good Luck!

  • What did your doctor say?  I know the numbers drop a lot more after m/c....but that's weird that they weren't that high.  Maybe they were higher but you just didn't get your b/w at that time?  Maybe the next time you're pregnant they can start testing your HCG levels RIGHT AWAY!?  :)  I know I'm going to ask...b/c that would ease my mind!
