What type of pump do you have and where did you get it from?

Hi ladies,

I'm due with Baby #2 in October and need a new Breast pump. Last one I had was the Medela PIS with Metro bag and I loved it, but after using it full time for an entire year and then lending it to two friends, I need a new one. I bought my old one at BabiesRus 3.5 years ago!

So I have to ask, where did you get yours from and roughly how much did you pay? I do remember reading about an online site that had them for discounted prices and with free shipping. My work also offers a discount, but it's not that impressive. I'm very likely to get the same pump again unless someone can convince me otherwise.

Just wondering :)

Thanks!

  • I have the Medela Freestyle and got it from Target.  I love that I don't have to be plugged into a wall with a big bag attached.  I can take the small pump with me anywhere (am actually pumping at my desk as we speak).  It's small, pretty quiet and portable.  I got it from Target for about $250ish (on sale).  They are expensive, however.

  • I used a medela freestyle with DS, and am hoping it still works for LO#2.  It worked great last time, we'll just see how it held up in storage for a few years.  I loved it's small size and the fact that I could walk around doing stuff around the house, getting ready in the morning, with the pump clipped to my belt.  I would definitely buy another one if I needed to replace it.  They are expensive, but worth it IMO.

  • I have a medela PISA and it has worked great so far (used it for 1 year + with DS and now with DD).  I bought it off some medical supply website that I now cannot remember the name of, but amazon looks like it has decent prices.

  • I got the mipump from Target for around $90. I wouldn't recommend it at all. It works okay and I'm too cheap to get a different one, but if I could do it over, I would pick something else.

  • I had the PISA with the regular old bag.  Got it at BRU, using a 15% off coupon.  Probably better deals online and no tax depending on what site.

The pump was great but after 24+ months of pumping it was on its last leg.  I nursed both kids when I wasn't working, but pumped 3-4 times a day at work.  I can see why you need another if you used it two years and then lent it out.  Very nice of you to lend it out!

  • I had the medela freestyle and I bought it from bestbuybaby.com. It was seriously $100 cheaper there than anywhere else. They don't post their prices online so you have to call to order. I think it's free shipping over $100. Used it to pump a whole year and it was still going strong. Hope that helps!!

  • I haven't used it yet but I got the Medela Freestyle at Burlington Coat Factory for $240. They had it listed at $299 I think then I had 20% off coupon for signing up for their emails

I have the PISA and I got it from a health equipment company (Binson's). You would be surprised how many insurances cover a breast pump. Call your insurance provider and ask about durable medical equipment. A few weeks before my due date I had my doctor write a prescription for a breast pump. DH took it to medical equipment supplier and I paid NOTHING but deductible for my PISA which I had to pay anyhow since I just had a baby.

  • I'm another huge Medela Freestyle fan. I'm planning to use it with LO #2 and still use it when I travel without LO #1 (who is almost 15 months old). It's small, hands-free, and pretty quiet for a pump. I have absoltuely no complaints.

I got mine for a great price because Burlington Coat Factory had them on sale for 20% off, so back when diapers.com did price matching (they don't anymore, I believe), I sent my $15 off coupon that I had from Medela in to them and they took $15 off the 20% off price, plus I was able to stack a diapers.com 10% off coupon on top so I paid $268 with free shipping.

  • I haven't used it yet, but I got the Medela PIS at Burlington Coat Factory (Baby Depot) and it was on sale for $219, then if you sign up for e-mail notices about sales, etc., they send a 20% off coupon that day.  I got mine for $187 after taxes.
