Is it normal to get sharp pains down there?

Is it normal to feel sharp pains once in a while down in your perineal/vagina area? Not abdomen. I am 35 weeks pregnant and I have these sharp pains down there once in a while that stops me in my track. It last a few seconds, I stop, paralyzed with fear/pain from the pain and it goes away. It was once in a while now I got 2 in the last 5 minutes.

Anyone else in the same boat?

    it's probably just the baby pushing down on your cervix.  very normal.  and painful.

     agreed.  i'm just about 34 weeks and have gotten them occasionally but they last only for a few seconds.

    Yep, sounds like "lightening crotch".  I have just started getting it in the past week too!

    I asked my OB about this last week. She said it was normal (it is caused by pressure on nerves down there). And, unfortunately, there is nothing you can do!

    I've never heard anybody else call it "lightning crotch" but that's EXACTLY what it is!
