  I'm not a teacher, but my DH is.  He went back for in-service this week and school starts on Monday.  He is a high school art teacher.

  Wow - that seems so early to me, but I know there are other districts starting around this time.  Schools in the city I live in go back tomorrow.  My district doesn't start until the 22.  I'm going to savor every last second of vacation!

  I go back on-contract on MONDAY! Ahhhh!!!!!!! The kids don't come back until the 22nd, though.

  My summer has been okay.. but our D&C was June 1st.. and STILL have not had AF since... so I really wished summer away every day, praying AF would come soon. I feel like it was kind of wasted. We didn't go on a vacation or anything. We did get new kitchen counter tops though!!

  My first teacher work day is supposedly the 31st, although who knows what will happen.  The state voted that teachers are taking a 1.9% pay cut, but we are technically under contract with the district for our original promised pay (well, aside from the promised cost of living increases that we haven't had for the past 4 years or money promised to keep class sizes under 30 kids in elementary... but that's a whole different story!).  Our union is meeting this week to see if the 31st and 1st will be furlough days.  The first day is scheduled to be the 7th. 

  What's a tad annoying is that they know teachers will work those "furlough" days anyways.  It's not like we can just show up the first day of school and start teaching, you know?  I need to set up my classroom, etc, and the furlough teacher work days.  The other work days before school are for meetings and trainings, and those (unfortunately) never get cut.
  

  I'm dreading going back, to be honest.  I thought for sure I would be pregnant, or that I would be out on maternity leave for a good chunk of the year.  Guess not.  Oh well, it will be ok.  At least my mortal work enemy will be on maternity leave, so that's a bonus!

  I'm not a teacher yet   But wanted to say HI FIVE to us.  I am going back in the Fall to complete my teacher certification in art education.  Just being an artist is awesome, but I decided I need another option, too much pressure on DH to pay the bills while I'm painting away .....

  I hope everyone enjoys their few remaining and fleeting moments of Summer.

  I really had a great summer though. I don't do summer school anyway (tried it one year and realized I had been right allll those other summers that I didn't do it!),  but I usually get some part-time job each summer. This year I.did.nothing. It was awesome.

  Still sad that it's already time to go back.

  I hope AF shows for you soon!  New kitchen counter tops are exciting!  We went to Disneyland for a few days in June and we're heading to the coast this weekend for our anniversary.  No big vacations for us this summer.  I've just mostly been sitting at home.  I did clean out our closet and partially redecorate our bedroom though.

  Ugh - annoying!  You're totally right - they have to know that teachers spend tons of time preparing classrooms and getting materials ready.  I hope you don't end up with the furloughs.  That is good though that your work enemy will be gone!

  I hear you!  I did summer school one year, and while the money was AWESOME, I felt like I didn't get any break.  I have done teacher trainings in the past also, and last year I was working full-time on my Masters. This is the first summer I haven't done anything, and I must say it has been thoroughly enjoyable.

  My summer has been ok. I taught summer school until last week, so I'm trying to enjoy having a couple of weeks to myself before heading back. We go back on the 24th, with kids returning on the 31st.

  I love my job, but I will miss reading all day and not caring what time the clock says.

  I teach 1st grade! Teachers report next Tuesday but the kids don't come until Thursday.I've been getting my classroom ready and lesson plans ready over the last week.

  First Ultrasound at 5w1d showed a miracle UTE baby! And right ovary ovulation to left fallopian tube.

  This was the first summer I did nothing as well!! It has been awesome!! But the money thing sucks.

  Yeah, I like to have extra money! But my last job was at a Charming Charlie's (do y'all have those anywhere near you? If you do and you like accessories, go!) I didn't really make money while working there, haha! It was more of a trading system.

  Ha. I gotcha! That's some serious dedication to work in an AC-less room. It's times like this that make teaching jr high reading worth it! A couple of book  and motivational posters thrown on the wall - tada! Decorating done.

  Summer comes to an end on the 26th for me but the kids don't come until the 1st.  I'm heading in tomorrow to start setting things up and then a technology meeting (they say it is optional) on Thursday.  Glad the heat broke here cuz our building has no air conditioning and the last two weeks have been over 90.  Hopefully the late start this year will  keep the rooms cooler the first couple of weeks.  I'm about ready to go back.  This summer has been a long one (the first one that I haven't taken a ton of classes).  Lots of free time so I'm excited to meet my new group.

  My summer has been pretty good, although since we moved into a brand new school for this year the last two weeks I spent a lot of time unpacking and organizing my classroom. 

  I am planning on going in 2-3 days the week of Aug. 22-26  because I still have to decorate the walls and bulletin boards in the classroom and I have to be back on August 29 for teacher in-service, we have 4 days of in-service.  

  The kids first day is Tuesday, Sept. 6.

  Going back to work the day after Labor Day.  Still have a few weeks left. I need to savor these moments. Meanwhile, I spent most of my Sunday evening creating plans for my students already.....I'm such a nerd!

  I have started to go in each day this week to get ready.  I am freaking out because we are going on vacation for the five days leading up to my first meeting day and then it is the first day of school.

  Summer was good but I am ready to get back.

  We have been enjoying the heck out of summer....haven't gotten our "welcome back" letter from our princ YET!!!!!  We went on a southern road trip, beach, fun w/family and friends, just relaxing!!!  We go back the last wk of August! BOO!

  I worked in July at my other job, so I have only had last week and this week off. It has been amazing!!!! I go back on Monday to start setting up my classroom. The kids go back the Tuesday after Labor day!

  I never knew we had so many teachers on the board!!!  That is awesome!!  

  Unfortunately, we found out on June 9th about Rango, and I've been out of school since then.  Our last day was the 20th, and since i was non-renewed anyway, i just didn't go back.  physically i could have, but emotionally it would have been too hard with the students and staff and saying goodbye on top of it all.

  so i don't feel like i had a good summer.  i even told DH tonight that this summer just sucked.  no matter what i tried to do with our family, it just sucked.  oh well.  hopefully next summer it will be better.  i'm trying to plan a vaca to universal where we promised to take the dds if they watched all the harry potter movies (they are on number 6!).  

  i got a short term contract at the first district i worked in.  i have to go on the 22nd for orientation, even though i worked there for 5 years and have been gone 3.  but we don't officially start until the 1st, and the students start the tuesday after labor day.   i can't believe how many people are going back to soon already!

  GL getting all your rooms ready for the munchkins (i teach high school and i still call them that!)

  My summer has been kind of an emotional roller coaster. I lost my son in April, and went back to work 2 weeks later since summer break was only a few weeks away. So it has been a time of grieving and healing. There have been some high points though.

   I have inservice all this week, and the kids' first day is next Wednesday! I don't feel ready at all!

  Imagine a love so strong that saying hello and goodbye the same day was worth the sorrow.

  I am actrually in administration now but I figure I could. I have loved summer and am so sad it's coming t an end. I go back the last week in August.

  Hi!

  I'm actually a preschool teacher. We officially go back August 25th and in service is on the 26th.  My kids don't start til the 9th of September though. We use that week for home visits, paperwork, and preparing our classroom. We also have a staggered start so only half the kids come one day and half come the next. That makes it SOO nice.
