When do food throwing stop???

Thomas is a great eater - he'll eat anything what we give him; however, he's at the age where he wants to feed himself.  But self feeding ends up throwing the bowl, plate, utensils, food.  When does this stop????

Re: When do food throwing stop???

  • J was around 2 when he stopped. When he starts throwing things it means he is done eating - just bring him down from his high chair.

M's almost 2 and he still throws food when he's done eating.

We trained Matt to put his food on the table (off his tray) when he is done. If he throws food he gets a timeout.  He used to throw food constantly but now he only does it once or twice a week.  No warnings, instant timeout.

    it stops?!

I was thinking the same thing! The only one that doesn't do this in our house is L. It's mostly K, but sometimes they all get carried away. At least the girls are big enough to clean it up.

  • Glad you asked this question as it is one of my pet peeves.  My daughter is still throwing food at 19 months.  Then she says "clean up, clean up" and starts picking it up when she gets down.  It's not so bad at home as I can clean it up, but I don't like taking her out anywhere (and I always said I'd take my kids out and they wouldn't be messy, I'm eating those words for sure!!!).  I hope it ends around 2, wouldn't that be nice.

And how do you do a time-out with a 19-month-old?
