Migrane help :(

This is the first day since saturday that I'm willing to venture into the sunlight. I've had terrible migranes that would not go away. I had the same problem with DS but later in my pg (~ 20wks). I ended up seeing my OB monday and she gave me some migrane meds (Fironal)  that I used during my last pg and  are safe for LO.  The problem is, when I took one, I woke up 6 hours later with absolutely no clue where the time went or that I had even fallen asleep. Obviously, I can't take them at work or if I plan on driving, which is m-f.

I've tried the non-medical route (wash cloths, showers, massage, etc) to no avail and tylenol is pretty much a joke.

Anyone have any tricks/ advice?

Re: Migrane help :(

  • I had my first one during pregnancy last night. I did tylenol (not much help) and ice on the back of my neck, DH rubbed my temples and the back of my head, and I think what helped was caffeine. I drank a 1/4 of retro pepsi. However, I wanted to die. I hope you find relief soon.

  • I am so sorry!  I second PP suggestion of caffeine.  I talked to my Dr. about it and he said a half a cup of coffee to get rid of some major pain will not have any lasting effects on LO.  When I'm not pg I rely on Excedrine (which has a ton of caffeine in it) but when I get them now I just drink some coffee and lay in a dark room.

    I hope they get better!

  • Same with the caffeine....my doctor told me to drink a coke because I don't like coffee.  It does seem to help.

  • Pre-pg I was on beta blockers for migraines. Really helpful. Had my first appt with the OB today and she approved me taking Excedrin Migraine and/or drinking a caffeinated beverage. She also said that if it gets too bad, I could contact my neurologist and go back on the beta blockers because she said they are safe. I'm trying the Excedrin/Caffeine route first, but if they get too bad, my neuro will definitely be getting a call!
