So the prior thread got me thinking that I really need to start looking or a car seat for DD (2.5) so I can transition DS (7 months) sometime soon from the infant carrier. Since we have two convertible car seats already (Britax Marathon and Boulevard), it would make sense to get a non-convertible one. Anyone have one they love, or advice on features I should be looking for? In my non-exhaustive search, it seems that these seats have cup holders and other amenities that might be nice.
Re: s/o car seats, recs for non-convertible ones
Why do you need another seat? We have 2 Marathons we plan to use until the kids are too big for them. They go upto 65lbs. DD is about 33lbs so until she realizes all other kids are now in boosters (what age is that? 4? she's not even 3 yet), she's staying in this one for a long long time!
After researching and researching, I bought one Graco Nautilus and one Britax Frontier, because I could not decide between the two.
Based on all of the reviews, and talking to some other moms, the Nautilus is as good as the Frontier but less expensive. I got the Frontier on sale for about $40 more than an on sale Nautilus.
I prefer the Frontier, only because DS is really good at clicking himself out of the Nautilus when he's bored (although telling him that the police are going to stop us if he gets out of his carseat appears to be working for the time being). I also think the Frontier looks more comfortable than the Nautilus, but DS doesn't appear to be uncomfortable in either carseat.
Like other Britax models, the Frontier is big but I drive a Santa Fe so space isn't much of an issue.
We need a minimum of 3 car seats. DH drives DD to pre-school and I drive DS to daycare and then pick up both of them. Until DS outgrows the infant carrier it can be a backup car seat for DHs car in an emergency.
ah, Ok, we have 4 Marathons, 2 in each car

In Consumer Reports for the "Toddler Boosters, Greater than 40lbs" category, the Nautilus is #1 (approx $165) and the Evenflo Maestro is #2 (approx $80). Both of those get a consumer reports "Best Buy" rating. (Prices are from CR so you may be able to find better prices based on sales).
I was looking at reviews on the Maestro on Amazon and they look pretty good. The main complaint seems to be that the tether is not long enough in some cars so you have to pay $12 for an extender.
