We had a rough night last night. Well it all started over the wknd when we were out of town. She was way overstimulated and slept like crap. She has a history of waking at night but not to eat. She usually is ok with her mobile and paci until this wknd. Now she cries and cries and is difficult to console. I recently bought Ferber's book but was hoping not to need it.
Well forget that. We'll be trying that tonite. I'm whining bc I got very little sleep last night and the rest of the week will be prob worse. It sucks being a working mom sometimes. I wish I could take a damn nap.
Anyways y'all think about me tonight. I get so upset hearing her cry so this is gonna be rough. Any encouraging words for those who have done Ferber?
Re: Angry working lady beware and Ferber! Long
I was in your place a couple of weeks ago, and I got the Ferber book. I made sure to read the first few chapters recommended as well as some of the other chapters that applied to us. It was the best thing we've done. The first night was a little rough, but since then, he's gone down pretty easily. I won't say it's perfect, but this working mom is happy that everyone seems to be sleeping more and more soundly at that.
Before that, I was rocking him to sleep up to an hour and a half at night only to have him wake about 45 minutes later. We were bedsharing as well, and he kicks a lot at night as well as wanted to nurse every half hour (only comfort sucking). Now, he only wakes twice a night.
It worked for us fast- basically one bad night and that was it. He's very good at self-soothing now- if he wakes up in the middle of the night he usually can fall back asleep on his own after a little bit.
Make sure there isn't an underlying condition before you start. For example, if she is teething she probably wouldn't respond well to the method.
GOOD LUCK!
In all honesty Ferber sucks the first couple nights. You have to stick with it. Use times that work for you (we like the 3-5-7 times and we still use that now if she wakes). I think I felt more tired at first BUT then she started sleeping through the night. And now I'm sleeping through the night, too. You can do it and it is so worth it.
