We wanted to wean DD from her Miracle Blanket, but I tried this morn and it was a MESS. So back to the swaddle!! I figure we can wait a few more weeks.. no biggee.
Did anyone wean for any reason other than rolling over (which she doesn't do when sleeping)?? just wondering
Also - all at once, or 1 arm at a time?
And HOW DID IT GO?? I'm scared. :>/
I remember this phase with my son, and it's funny, I SHOULD have some perspective (as he's a great 12 hour per night sleeping 3 year old now!) but I am still so nervous!!
Re: Weaning from swaddle - anyone???
I don't normally post on here but I saw this and thought I would let you know what we did.
Our LO was in a swaddle from day one and we were really really nervous to not use it. At 3 months we tried to not use it but our LO was definitely not ready. At our sons 4 month check up the pediatrician said that we needed to wean off that because he is rolling over. We started last Thursday by taking just 1 arm out of swaddle. The first night went amazing!! He slept through the night! Because it went so well the first night we decided to take both arms out the second night. Again it went great. I have to say our LO was easier to put to bed because he could get situated in a comfortable position. He likes to roll to his side to sleep or on his stomach. We are currently still wearing swaddle with arms out but will be switching to a sleep sac tonight.
Thanks!! Can I ask though what the point of a swaddle w/arms out is? I thought 'swaddling' meant the arms were restrained.. so... do you mean you swaddle the abdomen/legs and no arms?
My 4 month old son started rolling over back to front last week so we knew we would have to stop swaddling soon. (He has NEEDED a tight swaddle since he was born, we used the Dream swaddle). Just last night he freaked when I placed him in his crib in the swaddle, I guess he was telling us he was done.
So we took off the swaddle and he flipped onto his stomach instantly. However he wasn't quite sure how to fall asleep on his stomach. I decided to let him cry for a little while to see if he would fall asleep. After 11 minutes of crying (felt like forever) i went in and rubbed his back and he fell asleep. He only woke up once during the night and I did the same thing and he fell back asleep. I hope he continues to sleep through the night like he has been doing and gets used to falling asleep on his own.
We had to wean from the swaddle about a month ago b/c DD started to roll. We first tried loosely swaddling in the large size swaddle so it was enough that she would go to sleep swaddled but then wake up. After that was just a pain (she would unswaddle in like 2 seconds) we tried something like this: https://www.woombie.com/convertible_woombie.html
It allowed her legs to be more confined, but her arms could be out, you can also do one arm out. This worked the best for us. Then after a couple weeks with this we moved into the sleep sack.
Good luck with whatever you decide. You're in for a couple rough nights regardless.

Nora decided for us. One night she was super fussy going to bed. She usually goes to bed fairly easy after eating, swaddling, and rocking. Well she was just fighting the swaddle so we decided to take her out of it. She immediately relaxed and fell asleep. She STTN to my surprise and we haven't done it since. This was right around the time she started rolling over so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. Now she does sleep on her belly though. We will put her on her back but she immediately rolls to her belly.
Good Luck!
