November 2011 Moms

Wow ppl just think they can say anything...

Like now that my bump is showing it is giving ppl permission and license to say whatever they want.  Most of it is nice, like your glowing, etc.  I don't even mind "wow you are popping out or you are waddling" thats cute no prob.
But the other day I had an older male coworker look me up and down and say about my hair "Wow that baby's really giving you gray's huh?" in front of a bunch of ppl in a meeting... I was like wow thanks thats NOT a compliment...
And today ...  well usually Iwear maternity clothes and they are cute and all but not always the most comfortable.  So today I was trying to be comfortable and wore a size large tshirt and sweats (this is acceptable everyday wear at my call center job)  and this lady had the nerve to look at me and say "that shirt is not going to fit you notime soon... that is an after-baby outfit ok you need to put that right back in your closet!"  she was trying to be funny but um.  not laughing!  I just gave her a death stare and was like huh?  your talking to me?
What is the craziest thing somebody has said about your bump?

  • Because I already have a set of twins, co-workers keep saying it's twins.  They think it would be hilarious for me to have two sets.  Uh, not funny.  I keep telling them, it's only one, but some people think it's hilarious to keep bringing it up.  They are the only ones laughing as I stand and stare angrily at them.

  • Wow.  That's pretty crazy.  People tend not to say things like that to me because I will look them right in the eye and call them out on it on the spot.  Mosrt people who know me are aware of this :)

The worst thing that has been said to me is ENTIRELY my own fault.  One day I was trying to get a seat on the couch with my husband and my son and I said  "make way, big fat Mommy coming through."  ANd now, of course, my 2 year old occasionally calls me "big, fat Mommy."  Whoops.  That one is all on me.

  • DH's cousin is pregnant with her 2nd and due in 5 weeks. I attended a family BBQ and DH's Aunt looks at me and says "Wow! You're so much bigger than --------- and you're only 27 weeks?!" Say what?! I shot her the nastiest look. How can people be so rude? Another good one is "Wow, Gail, you're really starting to get huge!" Uh...thanks?

  • Just yesterday a woman I work with overheard me telling someone else that "we aren't going to find out what the sex of the baby is." She interrupted our conversation and asked if she had missed some big announcement at work. I told her that I was pregnant and due in November.

Honest to Pete, I see this woman several times a week passing in the hall. Do I really not look pregnant? I know that I'm carrying low and don't have the cute baby bump that most women have, but I have been wearing maternity clothes for months now, and some are pretty obvious. Did she just think I was gaining weight? Or do I not look pregnant. Compliment or insult? I'm not sure how to take it.

Pretty much this.  It seems to be more men that say this.  I just give them blank stares and say, yup, just one.  Then they say, are you sure??  More blank stare.  So annoying,  I am 6 feet tall and not that huge, not sure why anyone thinks that is funny to say??

  • oh yeah I just thought of another one.  "wow isn't 1 enough?  You sure you want to have another one?"

  • This is all from the people I work with. They feel the need to comment on it daily:

"Are you sure there's only one in there?"

"What, you still have until November?"

    "OMG your huge."

"Your actually getting a bust." (Totally didn't get this one since I was a D before getting pregnant.)

"Your going to be needing an XL shirt soon." (I currently only wear a M so I think I'd try a L first thanks.)

"Your going to have a HUGE baby." (I don't know why but this bothers me the most. She is not huge at all she is actually on the smaller side.)

"Oh she can't do that she's with child." (Not about my bump but still annoying.)

And then there is one woman at my work who thinks its funny to make up random stories about me to customers like that I'm her daughter and my bf knocked me up and left and now she has to take care of me and her grandbaby. I don't find this at all amusing.

  • "You think your uncomfortable now, just wait!"

Not about my bump, but still annoying: "Are you sure you want to by that (not baby related item)?  Babies are expensive; you should save your money for something down the line."

"Go to garage sales to save money.  Babies don't need everything brand new."

Ugh, we're not buying a ton of stuff (I have two upcoming showers and we are team green, which is hard to buy for) and I don't believe babies need everything brand new, but I am not going to buy pointlessly from garage sales when I don't know what I will receive from my showers.

Yep-this (comments on what I'm buying). My mom (and some others) think I'm buying SO MUCH STUFF for the baby.  Everything I've gotten has been a super amazing deal on Craigslist or the clearance rack and has been a needed item.  They keep saying "let other people buy things for you".  Sorry, but I'm not waiting until November when people get their gifts together to prepare for my baby.  (And there are LOTS and LOTS of things left on my registry...not sure what the issue is.  If someone else wants to wait last minute and I already have something, I'll return it, sell it, or give it away.  Not my problem :)
  • omg at some of the things people say to you. the only random who has even commented on my pregnancy is a lady at the salon who asked if i was pregnant at a point that i didn't even think i looked pregnant, but i guess i've been lucky that nobody has offered unsolicited advice, touched my stomach, or told me how big i look. some good advice itt in case people start staying these wack things down the road.
