what does this mean? sleep related r/o

DS has been sleeping throught the night technically..last month he would scream/cry in his sleep and DH or I would soothe him and then he fell back asleep. I think we got 1 week where he slept peacefully and then two weeks ago he got a throat infection that was agony b/c he could only be fed by syringe and he was up every couple of hours. The infection is gone and now but he still not sleeping well.

Instead of crying, he has been coughing in his sleep where he'll go on all fours and cough into his crib mattress. It's a dry cough and sometimes it sounds like he will vomit but he doesn't. This morning it sounded so bad he woke himself up even after I picked him up. I'm trying to get a pedi appt today but I'm so worried. Any advice or thoughts? TIA.

  • His throat is probably raw from the infection. If it's raw, it probably feels dry and scratchy and is making him cough. I would keep a humidifier going 24/7, and make sure he drinks sips of water between meals and bottles to keep his throat moist and help it heal. I'm sorry he is feeling cruddy! DD had RSV when she was a baby. It took forever for her cough to go away. It wasn't even so much as her lungs as it was her dry throat. Once they start coughing it takes forever (it seems) for it to go away. Sad
