Ours doesn't open until 9. I don't care if they don't want to take patients until then, but it drives me nuts that I can't even call to get an appointment until then. I have to get to work and plan my day before then! (And, without fail, I end up getting to work and getting involved in a project and forgetting to call at the stroke of 9.) I end up taking them to daycare for an hour before I can even call the pedi, which totally sucks if they're not feeling well. (I never would if I thought they were contagious, but I do if I suspect an ear infection or something like that.)
Honestly, I think they could/ should have someone there at 7:00 to just answer calls and make appointments! I'm sure that never happens though. .
Or does it? ![]()
What time does your pedi - a) take phone calls, and b) take patients?
Re: What time does your pedi open?
My pedi is like yours - 9 for both.
But, they have given me 8:30 appointments when I had to take the boys in to do their pre-admission as the pedi wanted to make sure we had plenty of time together for my questions.
I also walk past their office on my way to the train station and I see the nurses getting there around 8, so I think they keep the 8-9 window open for "emergencies" but they absolutely do not answer the phone to make appointments (it goes to the answering service).
ETA: My pedi is very good in that I can ALWAYS get same day appointments, even if I called at noon. So if they are not well, I just stay home under the assumption that they can get in that day. Most likely, I drop them off at DC anyway and work from home and pick them up from DC whenever their appointment is.

Ours opens at 8, at least for phone calls. I'm not sure what the earliest appointment time is (I think the earliest we've gone in is 9).
Usually if I think I'm going to need to take DD in for something that isn't contagious or of immediate concern, I either try to take her in the afternoon so I can work in the morning or wait until one of our days off (I work 3 days/week and DH is off one day/week to stay home with DD). Obviously if she's really sick I stay home with her and get her an appointment as soon as they open. Luckily my boss is really easygoing when it comes to needing time off for your children.

Ours is 8:30 for call and it it annoys me too. My kids are up at 6:30 and I have to sit and wait to call!

8:30 for phone calls. Twice I've just taken him in and just gotten there when they open as a walk-in, both were for very high fevers over night (104+). The first time they saw me pretty much right away, the second time I had to wait until an "opening" but it wasn't long.
I wish we had an option to leave a message, it is always answered by the answering service.

ditto every word.
9 is late.
And I too do the call early like a radio contest.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
Our's opens at 8:30 am for patients and for calls. If you called in the night before (like and after hours call) they will call you before 830am to set up an appt to come in that day if it's needed- that way they can deal with the emergencies.
I get that it can be annoying, but most pedi's are not walk in 24 hour clinics, if it's an emergency you can usually get in touch with the doctor, they should have a answering service answering their calls after hours who can page the pedi.
