Baby-proofing your decor (e.g. in family room)?

Popping over to ask a question (also posted on December 2010 Moms):

If you've baby-proofed your family room, what kind of decor do you now have on your coffee table, end tables, etc.? Or are those surfaces bare?

DD just started crawling and is trying to pull up on furniture, and so I want to move breakables (like jar candles, vases, frames) out of her reach - but I don't know what to put in their place to keep the room looking inviting.  What have you guys done?

    I bought an ottoman.  Inside I keep all the toys. That way when we have guests, I can hide them easily.  All my frames, I put on higher shelves out of reach of LO.  Candles are on the counter, also out of reach.

    we also bought a storage ottoman, which i must say I've gotten quite used to...and i just moved everything else that i could move that he could get get hurt on or get into. I will put it back once he understands "no" and gets back into his toys and not my pots and pans etc etc hahah

    I've been thinking about the storage ottoman. Right now, we have a couple big baskets of her toys in her playroom and a small one in the family room (under the end table).  Good call on moving stuff until LO can understand "no."

    Ours are now bare. Everything I tried got pulled off and put into the mouth, lol. So much easier to just keep it bare. I put extra decorative touches elsewhere and it still looks inviting. I like the  storage ottoman idea a lot but haven't been able to find one yet to match our furniture.

    We keep everything bare. DS1 was/is good about leaving things alone, but I'm not sure if DS2 will be like that, so we'll see. I had success with convincing DS1 that certain items could be touched, but not picked up.

    I don't baby-proof, and I left everything as-is (candles, photos, etc).  He has to learn that he's not allowed to play with certain things.  He's pretty good about not touching "no-no" items now.
